How to Transfer to CSU Northridge & other CSU Campuses
Introduce myself. Put TCC # (for appt) and my on the board
2
California State University - CSU
The CSU is a leader in high-quality, accessible, student- focused higher education. 23 campuses Approx. 474,000 students More than 49,000 faculty and staff Largest, most diverse, and one of the most affordable university systems in the country Let me give you a little bit of background.
3
23 Outstanding Campuses Many options available across the state
4
Differences between CSUs and UCs
Cost Prestige Full-Time vs. Part-time Classroom Size/Instruction Theory vs. Application Cost: CSU more affordable: $4,810-$6,780 (approx.5-7K) UC more expensive approx. 13K So about half the cost of the UC Prestige: Haw may of you think UC’s are better than CSU’s? How many of you have heard tor think hat UC’s are better than CSU’s? Many people just have this perception without truly knowing the differences and making an informed decision. Myth: they serve a different purpose. CSU- UC- One isn’t better than the other it just depends on the type of program you are interested and if the school offers the major (Schools are like stores: not all stores have the same products so you have to look for a school that is the right fit for you. After all, you are spending 2 of your most valuable resources as you pursue an education (time & money). So again very important that you ensure you get what you need). Full-Time vs. Part-Time: UC- expected to be a full a full-time student, courses primarily in the day. CSU’s- there is the option for full-time and part-time, day and night options, more flexible Classroom Size/Instruction- UC-typically large lecture halls. Taught by assistants and graduate students in combination with professors. CSU-smaller classroom sizes (similar to SMC) and taught by the a consistent professor. Theory vs Application: UC’s focus on research. CSU’s focus on skill development to assist student in going straight into the workforce. Thus there are certain majors found specifically in either of the systems. Ex. Kinesiology Also, Business specialties like marketing/finance/accounting (CSU’s). Most UC’s will offer Economics as their business option. Applied- what you need to know and how to do it (What & How) Theoretical-theory framework that focuses on understanding, research. Application of social sciences, math / stats to business problems. Analysis in order to make decisions. Recognize human behavior in relation to work, production, distribution (Why) BUS AD is in the middle to the spectrum For example: UCLA major: Business & Economics is not a traditional business program because even though business if highlighted in the name of the program the business piece of this program really focuses on finance and accounting classes.
