2 Geographically, Malaysia is almost as diverse as its culture
Geographically, Malaysia is almost as diverse as its culture. 11 states and 2 federal territories (Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya) form Peninsular Malaysia which is separated by the South China Sea from East Malaysia which includes the 2 states (Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo) and a third federal territory, the island of Labuan.

Climate Tropical (without extremely high temperatures) Days are very warm and often humid, nights are fairly cool.  Main rainy season: Peninsular: November – February (East Coast), August (wettest period on the West Coast). East Malaysia: November - February Average daytime temperatures: around 27°C (82°F) year round.

with constitutional monarch. Sub-divisions: 13 States and 3 Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Labuan & Putrajaya) Each states has an elected assembly and government headed by Chief Minister.

Capital Kuala Lumpur Population 29.3 million (UN, 2012) Area  329,847 sq km (127,355 sq miles) Major languages  Malay (official), English, Chinese dialects, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam Races Largest ethnic groups – Malays (more than 50% ), Chinese (about 25%) and Indians (about 10% ). In Sabah and Sarawak, there are a myriad of indigenous ethnic groups (Dayak, Iban, Bidayuh, Kadazan, Murut etc) Major religions  Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism Currency  Ringgit Malaysia (RM)

7 Malaysia, Truly Asia! Malaysia consist of more than 100 races, dialect group and indigenous people speaking more than 142 different languages and dialect among themselves, Malaysia deserves to be called “Malaysia Truly Asia". The largest ethnic groups in Malaysia are the Malays, Chinese and Indians. In Sabah and Sarawak, there are a myriad of indigenous ethnic groups with their own unique culture and heritage.  The Malays, Malaysia's largest ethnic group, make up more than 50% of the population, although this drops to less than 25% in East Malaysia. the term Malay refers to a person who practices Islam and Malay traditions, speaks the Malay language and whose ancestors are Malays. The second largest ethnic group, the Malaysian Chinese form about 25% of the population. Mostly descendants of Chinese immigrants during the 19th century, the Chinese are known for their diligence and keen business sense. The three sub-groups who speak a different dialect of the Chinese language are the Hokkien who live predominantly on the northern island of Penang; the Cantonese who live predominantly in the capital city Kuala Lumpur; and the Mandarin-speaking group who live predominantly in the southern state of Johor.  n Sarawak this 25% is made up of a mix of dialect groups including Foochow, Hakka, Hokkien, Teochew, Hainanese and Puxian Min while in Sabah the population of Chinese drops to around 10% who predominantly speak the Hakka language. The smallest of three main ethnic groups, the Malaysian Indians form about 10% of the population. Predominantly Hindus.

9 RELIGIONS Malaysia’s official religion is Islam and freedom of religious worship is enshrined in the constitution making Malaysia a colorful country, you will find numerous churches, Hindu Temples, Taoist Temples, Buddhist Temples, Mosques and other religious places all over the country.
