We help people affected by cancer.

3. This is Douglas Macmillan
This is Douglas Macmillan. Douglas’ father sadly died of cancer when he was a young man. Douglas was so moved by his father's illness that he decided to start a charity to try and help other people with cancer.
That was just over 100 years ago (1911). Since then, Macmillan Cancer Support has helped millions of people affected by cancer.

4. Cancer can be really tough
Cancer can be really tough. People going through cancer often feel scared and alone. And it’s not just them – families and friends are affected too.
When you’re worried and need advice or information its good to have someone to turn to. Someone who can listen and help and give advice.
That’s why Macmillan is here. Our team is here to support everyone affected by cancer.

5. We fund special nurses called ‘Macmillan nurses’ who care for people all the way through their cancer treatment. They also offer emotional support and help people with cancer deal with their symptoms and pain.

6. We have a phone line which anyone affected by cancer can call
We have a phone line which anyone affected by cancer can call. Our cancer experts answer people questions and worries, or just listen if they need to chat.

7. If someone has cancer they may have to take some time off work and pay for extra things like travelling to hospital appointments.
Our experts talk people through their money worries and tell them what benefits they can get.
We can also give people money for things like heating bills or a much needed family holiday.

8. And our team of volunteers help people living with cancer with everyday things like shopping or a lift to hospital.

9. We can only provide these services thanks our fantastic supporters who donate money or fundraise for us.
Perhaps you’ve heard of our biggest fundraising event, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. On one day in September, thousands of people get together at their school, work or home and sell drinks and treats to raise money for Macmillan.
