Of the 23 system variants we plan to deploy 13 in the warm front end Current Monitor (BCM) Fast BCM Doppler (DPL) Allison scanner (EMU) Slit and grid (EMU) Faraday cup (FC) Long. Bunch Shape (BSM) Fluorescence NPM Wire Scanner (WS) Position Monitor (BPM) Fast BPM Ion Chamber Loss (icBLM) Neutron detectors (nBLM) Primary issue is electronic hardware. Strive for an ideal situation: Technical communications: System and Technology Leads coordinate directly with partners and stakeholders Decision-making and collaboration meetings: One face-to-face per three videoconferences Expectation Management: System team of 4: BD Lead, IK Lead, Beam Physics and ICS. Coauthor: first proton functionality and commissioning plan. Purcell: the other team SNS: regular manager meetings, team VC, but not enough face to face between engineers. Lessons Learned (a very tiny subset)
I believe that our organizational structure can handle the challenges to come Even better, we will evolve, based on experience and a spirit of continuous improvement Legacy Schedule issues: Embed float in contract/plans; review at PDR LEBT vacuum component issues: Vacuum section/partners provide vacuum chambers and components. Recent PBI deployment in Catania Mechanical integration issues (chamber did not accept EMU): Release all devices, even temporary, into mechanical CAD model Limited time for system deployment: Document integrated commissioning plans; more frequent face-to-face engagement ICS integration issues, no MPS: Coauthor the (first proton) functionality documents and building blocks. Grounding/EMI/analog front end issues: Engage technology leads Useful BCM demo on HV supply: Leave this loaned device in place for now Data management: MEBT-Target cables/racks/devices in databases. Add LEBT. Excellent physics/technical designs: Continue focus on commissioning Motivated partners: Maintain engagement through commissioning in Lund 11/01/2017 Tom Shea - NCFE meeting, Catania
