2 Use Quotes When searching for an exact phrase
Will show results for exact match Spelling and order of words

3 Us an asterisk Replace a word with an asterisk inside quotations to find all variations of that phrase. Example: Searching for song lyrics when you don’t know one word (“There’s nothing * me back”) Example: Finding all forms of an expression ( “* is thicker than water”)

4 Use the minus sign Eliminates results containing certain words
Use when a search is producing several results that aren’t of interest to you Example – trying to find information on a jaguar, but results for the car are showing (Jaguar –car)

5 Use ~ to search similar words
Using ~ will search for a word and all of its’ synonyms Example: ~mobile phone will show results for “phone”, “cell”, “cellular”, “wireless”

6 Use websites for Keywords
“site:’ function that searches only that site Example: You want to see everytime time.com mentioned Google “Google site:time.com” Example: You are shopping for beds, but only want to see options from Amazon “Beds site:amazon.com”

7 Search Scholar Articles for Research
Use Google Scholar to find scholarly articles for research Provides correct citation for you! scholar.google.com

8 Compare using VS Use for comparing any two items
Example: Comparing NFL teams Search “Cowboys vs Raiders” Compare scores

9 Multiple Words Use the word “OR” to search either word
Example: “Vacation London OR Paris” This will return results for vacations in London OR Paris

10 Numerical Ranges Search for a range of numbers with “…”
Research during a specific time frame: Ex: Willie Mays 1950…1960

11 Use “Define:” Search with the word “DEFINE:” and you will find definitions for any word that follows If you want to find definitions to the word “plethora” Search: “Define: plethora”

12 Search Math Answers Google will give you answers to basic calculator functions Example: Typing 1+1 in the search bar will yield the answer 2

13 Search Conversions To convert units of measurement, search using the word “in” Example: “cm in foot” will show a conversion calculator.

14 Search images using images
Drag and drop or upload an image into Google to search similar images.

15 Search a file type Use a file extension to search for a particular file type. Example: Search “World War II .pptx” to search for Powerpoint Presentations about World War II

19 “Do a Barrel roll”

20 What is the loneliest number

21 Google Gravity Click on the first result.

22 Search Games – Play games
“solitaire” “tic tac toe” “pacman” “Atari Breakout” - Images

23 Animal sounds Search: “What sound does a dog make” and switch between animals.

24 Retro Google Search: “Google in 1998” will take you back to the search engine during that year.

25 Zerg Rush Search this term and attack the O’s!
