2. WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCE POPULATION GROWTH?

3. Abiotic – nonliving parts of an organism’s environment
Abiotic – nonliving parts of an organism’s environment. Biotic- the living organisms that inhabit an environment.

4. Carrying Capacity – the number of organisms of 1 species that an environment can support.

5. Competition – the relationship between organisms that need the same resources.

6. Exponential growth –a population grows faster as it increases in size.

7. Limiting Factors – any factor that restricts the survival, reproduction or distribution of organisms.

8. Logistic growth - growth rate decreases as the population reaches carrying capacity.

10. Overpopulation - when a population of a species exceeds the carrying capacity of its environment.

11. Population – a group of organisms of the same species that interbreed and live in the same place.
