2. News from the Jungle Math Reading/Language By Mrs. Landis

Reading/Language
Kindergarteners will be
working with the letter
and sound for Vv. We will
be reading Plaidypus Lost and Abuela to get ready for Grandparents’ Day.
First Graders will be learning about the “R Apartment” on Vowel Town. This is where ar, er, ir, ur and or live. We will also be spelling words with e at the end making the vowel say its name instead of its sound.
Math
Kindergarteners will be finishing the chapter on comparing numbers 0-9 this week, while First Graders will be learning more strategies for addition. We will start Rocket Math timed tests!

Reading/Language
Kindergarteners will be
working with the letter
and sound for Pp. We will
be learning about pumpkins.
First Graders will be working really
hard with v-e words. We will practice spelling and writing long vowel words.
Math
Kindergarteners will be working on identifying and describing 2D shapes.
First graders are practicing addition strategies.
We are all working on number sense and making meaning of our math. I want them to understand how it works and when to use it in their life.
I am sending home a Scholastic book order today. If you would like to order, please send the order form and a check back to me by
Friday. If you would like to order online, please go to Scholastic.com and enter our class code GZL2K. We get some great things for our class with your orders. I am sending a book home today that was FREE with our September orders. Thanks!
Thanks to all the Grandparents that
came to our party on Friday! It was

Pizza Hut Book-it starts today! I am sending an October form today! Please read 10 books with your child and write them on the list. Return it for a coupon for free pizza! Students who return a form every month will be invited to a special lunch in April!

Reading/Language
Kindergarteners will be learning about short vowels this week.
We will learn about “Smile Hill” in Vowel Town and will be reading and writing words with the short Aa sound like in apple. We will also be doing some fun apple activities and learning about plants.
First graders will be reading and writing words with qu, x and y. We will review Vowel Town.
Math
Kindergarteners will be working on identifying and describing 2D shapes.
First graders are practicing addition strategies. WE will be working with doubles and doubles + 1.
We are all working on number sense and making meaning of our math.

Math
We will also be reviewing our Math skills this week. Kindergartners will review counting, reading and writing numbers 0-9 and 2D shapes. First Graders will review addition strategies and practice using them!
Reading/Language
We will be doing lots of
review this week. First Graders will review vowel town and the consonant sounds. Kindergarteners will review the letters and sounds we’ve done so far: Mm, Nn, Ff, Vv, Pp, Aa. We will be learning about plants.

Reading/Language
Kindergarteners will be
working with the letter
and sound for Ff. We will
be reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears and talking about the character of a story.
First Graders will keep reviewing consonant letters and sounds and Vowel Town. We will be learning about visualizing when you read. Please watch for books to come home that your child can read to you! They will get 1 fuzzy for every person they read to.
Math
We have been working on writing numbers quickly.
Kindergarteners will be comparing numbers 0-9 this week, while First Graders will be learning strategies for addition. We will start Rocket Math timed tests next week!
Friday Fun Day this week is Flashlight Fun! Bring a flashlight to read with!
