Identify the characteristics of language (primarily written) within your discipline Conduct 2-3 interviews from individuals who are at different levels of “literacy” within your discipline (pertaining to writing and studies) Compare your interview finding with some scholarly writing in your discipline. Identify patterns and themes and present them in the form of an empirical report (APA format) Discourse Community Analysis

2 Scholarly Literature Evaluation
Select at least 2 scholarly journals from your discipline and one article from each journal Evaluate the journals based on scholarly source criteria and usefulness to exploring and answering a research question within your discipline Remember the audience and purpose of this project Provide examples from the articles to “show” how they are a good match for this audience and purpose. 4 Literature Review Read and analyze 7-10 articles related to your research question Identify threads in the conversations. Summarize and contextualize the similarities and differences: what are the connections between these conversations threads? How are they connected to a larger topic or conversation? Use this review to provide context for how you will present your research paper.

5 Create a scholarly or popular report based on your Proposal research question
Tailor your writing, content, and design to a specific audience (i.e., using the language of your discourse community) Present your research and “position” in APA format APA Research Paper

6 Reporting on Scholarly and Popular Sources in our Disciplines
Identify the characteristics of scholarly and popular sources Select three scholarly and one popular source within your major or discipline Report to peers in your discipline about these scholarly and popular sources and how they can be used Provide examples from the sources Reporting on Scholarly and Popular Sources in our Disciplines Select the journals from your discipline and one article from each journal Evaluate the articles based on scholarly source criteria Analyze and compare and contrast the content and format of the articles – as well as the discourse used and the writing style.
