How does the Mentor Program work?
Our online platform supports peer-to-peer, and alumni to student mentorships: First year students Eligible to request one second year peer mentor Second year students Eligible to request one alumni mentor Eligible to sign up as a peer mentor Participants are initially connected through the online platform. Once connected, they are free to through the platform, and subsequently via , phone, and personal meetings

The Process Registration
Complete profile, orientation and pre-survey Submit application for review Receive confirmation e- mail First year students and second year mentees: Request Mentors Review list of available mentors and send request Receive match accept or decline notice If match is declined, repeat the first step and request another mentor Start interacting with the mentor Second year mentors and Alumni: Review Requests Review student mentee requests Accept or decline requests Start interacting with the mentee Maintenance Post survey of experience Check-in every few weeks to assess progress Host in-person meetings with mentees The Process

Review LinkedIn and other online resources to learn about your mentor’s professional biography and current organization Ask specific questions about your mentor’s career experience and experience at Heinz College Talking points: Describe yourself and your professional interests Discuss expectations for frequency of communication Other common interests

Maintaining the Mentorship
Expectations for mentorship The purpose is NOT to get a job but an opportunity to build a long term-term relationship Avoid discussing exact interview questions, salary, or anything too personal Ongoing communication Stay in touch via phone, meetings or Be mindful of mentor’s schedule Be proactive! Be prepared, thoughtful and engaging
