2 Bell Ringer List ways in which Greek Mythology has influenced Western culture (words/phrases, names, products, books/movies, etc.) Who is your favorite god/goddess? Why? Can you name/describe any of the Greek Monsters?

3 Impacts on Language Greek mythology has influenced countless areas including language, astronomy, astrology, business, medicine, sexuality, botany, psychology, products, athletics, weather, and even the Bible. References in famous writings.

7 Narcissist Narcissus: fell in love with his reflection.

9 Arachnids Arachne was a gifted weaver. Offending the goddess, Athena, she turned her into a spider.

There were three: thunder, lightning and the lightning bolt. Gave Zeus his weapons of lighting and thunder.

Massive creatures with 50 heads and 100 arms of great strength

27 Gorgons Female monsters with snakes for hair.
Two were immortal, one was not. Who was the mortal one?

28 Medusa Once so beautiful, she made Athena jealous.
Medusa is pursued by Zeus in one of Athena’s temples. Athena turns her into a Gorgon. Which hero later kills her?

29 Cerberus Three-headed dog
Guards the entrance to the underworld: the dead may enter, but not leave. Orpheus (a great musician and poet) was able to get past the dog by charming him to sleep with his song.
