This slide represents a snapshot of all the high-level milestones illustrating that the transition process in total will span well over a 2-year timeframe, beginning in September of 2016 and ending January of Please note that for the purpose of distinguishing between the current 5-module CPIM configuration and the new 2-part CPIM configuration in this presentation, exams and courseware associated with the 5-module configuration will be described as legacy products and the exams and courseware associated with the 2-part configuration will be described as new products.
We will now explore each of these milestones in a bit more detail.

APICS CEO, Abe Eshkenazi, announced the CPIM Reconfiguration at the APICS 2016 Conference, at the end of September in Washington D.C. Immediately following the announcement, APICS posted a press release which received international notoriety within a few short weeks as a variety of media outlets reported this news.

On June 1, 2017, the new CPIM Exam Content Manual, or ECM, corresponding to the 2-part configuration will be available for sale.
The ECM will continue to be packaged in the Learning Systems, just as they are in the current Workbooks and the CSCP and CLTD Learning Systems, but some of you may want to check out the new ECM early, so please be aware of the ECM release date for reference.

6 months to take the BSCM exam

On July 7, 2017, the countdown will begin for using or purchasing legacy Basics exam Authorizations to Test (ATT) and the Exam Credits (EC). Partners and candidates will still be able to buy Exam Credits and ATTs for the legacy Basics exam until January 7, As we will see in a moment, the legacy Basics exam will be discontinued from delivery on January This is important to note if you, or your students, want to take the legacy Basics before that exam is retired.
Normally the ATTs and ECs have a 6 month expiration. But July 7, 2017 represents the date six months from when the legacy BSCM Exams can no longer be taken. So each day the candidate waits AFTER July 7 to purchase a Basics exam ATT or an Exam Credit, the amount of time they have to take the exam will be reduced.

3 months to take the BSCM exam

So, for example if a candidate bought a legacy Basics Exam Credit or ATT on July 7, 2017, they will still have 6 months to take the exam. However, if a candidate buys the Exam Credit or ATT on October 7, they will have only 3 months to take the legacy Basics exam. Please be aware that the schedule is different for the other four legacy CPIM exams which will discuss shortly.

Sometime between late August and early September, the new Learning Systems & instructor materials will be available for purchase.
On this same date, we will also discontinue selling legacy BSCM courseware since the last date to take the exam will be January 7. Candidates who still have access time to the legacy Basics exam simulator will still be allowed access to help them prepare for their exam which they will need to take on or before January 7.
Also on this same milestone, we will discontinue selling legacy MPR/DSP/ECO and SMR exams to anyone who did not take any of the four exams previously or had not previously purchased the courseware for one of these modules.
And finally, we will also discontinue selling legacy courseware to anyone who did not take any of the four exams or had not purchased courseware for one of the other four modules. These candidates will be directed to the new Learning Systems and exams.

Cut Score meeting and ratification for Part 2

A Cut Score Meeting will be held on October 14, 2017, at the APICS annual Conference, to determine the passing score of the new Part 2 exam.
The delivery of the combined components (MPR, DSP, ECO & SMR) into one exam is very different from the candidate's experience when taking each module separately. Because of this difference, we cannot use the previous performance or psychometric statistics of each exam individually.
Ratification of the cut score will occur at a Certification Committee meeting in December. The Part 1 exam, previously known as the Basics of Supply Chain Management, does not require a new passing score calibration.

As mentioned previously, January 7, 2018 will be the last day that anyone can take the legacy Basics exam. Remember if your candidate waited to purchase their Authorization to Test on January 6, they will have one day to take the exam. Also on this day, we will discontinue the sale and availability of the BSCM Simulator as well.

And on January 8, 2018 the two new CPIM exams will begin delivery at Pearson VUE test centers worldwide. The new Part 1 exam will be slightly longer and will contain new Technologically Enhanced Items (TEIs) providing a more interactive testing experience for the candidate representative of more real-life situations. Examples will include fill in the blank, drag & drop, and ordered lists with more detailed explanations and examples included in the Exam Content Manual.
And because the cut score has already been established for the Part 2 exam in December, any individual taking that exam in January and going forward will receive their scores immediately at the test center without a delay or beta period.

So, this completes our review of the high-level CPIM launch timeline.
One additional change to point out is that the new CPIM exams will have 3 year expiration dates. Legacy CPIM exams allowed for a 10 year expiration date, but after discontinuation of the legacy exam offering on December 31, 2018, the 10-year expiration will only matter to those who have passed the legacy Basics exam and wish to pursue certification by passing Part 2 of the new configuration.
