1 About SNA Professional association representing over 55,000 members who work in school nutrition including: foodservice directors, managers, employees, cashiers, cooks, educators, specialists and state agency. SNA members reach approximately 31 million students (62%) in the USA. A little bit of background on us: The School Nutrition Association (or SNA) is a national, non-profit professional organization representing more than 55,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the country. SNA works to ensure all children have access to healthful school meals and nutrition education. With 49 state affiliates, hundreds of local chapters and thousands of school nutrition members and industry partners, SNA brings a unique, firsthand perspective to child nutrition issues. Our VISION is (to): Be the authority and resource for school nutrition programs. Our MISSION is as follows: SNA is the national organization of school nutrition professionals committed to advancing the quality of school meal programs through education and advocacy.

SNA’s award-winning flagship publication Only magazine targeted specifically to the unique operational needs of school nutrition professionals Published 11 times per year One of the most tangible benefits is the School Nutrition Magazine – SNA’s award winning flagship publication. Each month, school nutrition professionals turn to School Nutrition magazine for information and inspiration in the form of cutting edge solutions, how-to advice and best practice models on dozens of topics. The School Nutrition magazine is published 11 times per year – with a June/July double issue.

SNA is always looking for feedback as well as ways to improve and offer more resources and materials.

5 Professional Development
SNA also provides great professional development opportunities to our members.  SNA has worked with USDA to align our programs with the new professional standards that went into effect July 1. To get a valuable head start on meeting these standards, there is a SNA certificate program. Achieving certification with SNA helps you improve your skills & knowledge, enhance your professional image, and move up in your career. For members, the fees to become certified are much lower than for non-members, too. For more information and to learn how to apply you can visit The highest credential for the school nutrition profession is the School Nutrition Specialist. SNA’s credentialing program encourages the highest standards among school nutrition professionals, as well as provides education programs for professional development. SNA has revamped and re-launched the exam and the first test will be at ANC next month.

6 SNA Special Events National School Breakfast Week
School Lunch Hero Day National School Lunch Week Throughout the year, SNA provides opportunities to highlight your programs, connect to your students and community, and thank your hard working teams. There are three special events that are celebrated nationwide: National School Breakfast Week in March School Lunch Hero Day in May And National School Lunch Week in October For both National School Breakfast Week and National School Lunch Week, SNA creates a fun theme that embraces a great message. For example, the 2015 Breakfast Week theme was “Make the Grade with School Breakfast,” which highlights how eating a nutritious breakfast helps students achieve success in the classroom and beyond. Our website also has lot of free marketing resources and ideas on how to celebrate each of these special events, nationally and locally.
