1 Association of Heart Rhythm With Exercise Capacity After Operation for Chronic Mitral Regurgitation

2 Fig 1 Preoperative and postoperative cardiopulmonary function assessed by cardiopulmonary exercise test. Note the significant improvement of (A) maximal oxygen consumption (V˙o2) and (B) ventilatory efficiency only in the preoperative atrial fibrillation–postoperative sinus group compared with the preoperative sinus–postoperative sinus group or the preoperative atrial fibrillation–postoperative atrial fibrillation group. The probability value depicted in the diagram is the difference of postoperative cardiopulmonary exercise test variables between the indicated two groups taking preoperative cardiopulmonary exercise test variables into account. The probability value depicted in the most bottom row of the table is the difference in postoperative cardiopulmonary exercise test variables among the three groups considering the preoperative difference of the variables (by analysis of covariance). (Af = atrial fibrillation; V˙co2 = carbon dioxide production; VE = minute ventilation.) 3 Fig 2 Change in preoperative and postoperative left atrial (LA) volume and pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP). Although (A) left atrial volume and (B) pulmonary artery systolic pressure were reduced significantly in all three groups, note that postoperative left atrial volume and pulmonary artery systolic pressure of the preoperative atrial fibrillation–postoperative sinus group are similar to the preoperative sinus–postoperative sinus group compared to preoperative atrial fibrillation–postoperative atrial fibrillation group. The probability value depicted in the diagram is the difference of variables between postoperative echocardiography variables between the indicated two groups taking preoperative echocardiography variables into account. The probability value depicted in the most bottom row of the table is the difference in postoperative echocardiography variables among the three groups considering the preoperative difference of the variables (by analysis of covariance). (Af = atrial fibrillation.) The Annals of Thoracic Surgery  , DOI: ( /j.athoracsur ) Copyright © 2012 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Terms and Conditions
