The house in Belleville, known as Girlstown, holds girls, provides 24 hours/ 7 days a week care for young women aged years old. 7
GIRLSTOWN How do we do it?
The program model is behavioral in nature, with a strong emphasis on mental health, therapeutic intervention and natural consequences. The program is based on a point/level system, which reinforces behavioral objectives in the areas of client motivation, appearance, hygiene, house expectations, academics and recreational activities. Residents are monitored through their individual Treatment Plan. Progress is facilitated by the intervention of a multi-disciplinary Treatment Team that includes the Case Manager, Residential Treatment Worker, Residential Supervisor, Program Manager and Psychiatrist. Completion of the program is typically achieved in 10 to 12 months.

FOSTER CARE The Guiding Harbor Foster Care Program provides its services to children from birth through 18 years of age. The Foster Care Program is designed to provide a family environment, in an agency-approved household, for youth who are temporarily or permanently unable to return to their families. Our foster parents make a commitment to reach out and share their lives and home to assist in creating a nurturing environment in which to enhance the child’s growth. Our primary goal is to reunite families. If reunification is not possible, the goal will change to engage the youth in a more permanent placement.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNER This year’s recipient said, “Girlstown was my first home after living in a shelter in Detroit for about eight months. Moving to any placement after the abuse subjected by my biological mother was not easy. Girlstown helped me overcome my fear of my mother and provided me with holistic coping skills.
15
HER STORY I learned how to do laundry and deep clean. There I had my first job it was monopoly money (lol), but I learned how to develop a spreadsheet and manage money. Girlstown gave me a safe shelter, good food, modest clothing, weekly entertainment activities, transportation, schooling and most importantly on-going emotional support.
16
WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY STUDENT
They worked hard to find me a good SIL placement, help with the move to my SIL home and college. Finally, with the help of my Girlstown SIL worker we discovered the John Seita Scholarship program at Western Michigan University. Without the Seita program, I would not have access to university.
17
PULL OUT THE KLEENEX I am forever grateful for their support because without them and other great people in my life I would not be where I am today.” -Amal
