1 SLIDE 1: My name is or We are __________________________. We are the Recycle at School Team. We are here to teach you everything you need to know about recycling at school. Our school is taking part in an exciting new recycling program! Now, we can recycle more at school. We can recycle PAPER and CONTAINERS and the drink containers we have always recycled. It’s up to us to recycle all that we can at school for a clean and healthy environment.

2 RECYCLING Have you seen our new bins? SLIDE 2:
Have you seen the new recycling bins around school? (point to all recycling bins that you have set up at the front of the room). You will see these in the hallways and the cafeteria. There is a bin for: Beverage Containers (point to large green beverage container bin) Containers (point to large blue container bin) Paper (point to large grey paper bin) There are small recycling bins in your classroom too. The small GREY bin in your classroom is for paper (point to small grey paper bin). The small GREEN bin in your classroom is for beverage containers (point to small green beverage container bin). The small BLUE bin in your classroom is for mixed containers (point to small blue container bin).

3 GREEN Drink containers go in the bin SLIDE 3:
Let’s start with BEVERAGE CONTAINERS! Beverage containers include the drink containers that our school has always recycled. When you recycle your drink containers, our school gets money so that we can do good things for the environment. Here are the beverage containers we can recycle at school: drink pouches, juice boxes, water bottles and juice bottles (show each item as you read them out loud). Before you put them in the beverage container bin, remember: Remove the straw. Put straws in the garbage bin (take the straw out of container) . Remove the bottle cap. Put bottle caps in the garbage bin (remove cap from bottle). Make sure it is empty. Pour liquid down the sink (empty any leftover liquid). All these containers are now ready to go in the GREEN beverage container recycling bin.

4 BLUE Food containers go in the bin SLIDE 4:
Let’s learn about MIXED CONTAINERS! Now, we can recycle more types of food containers. Some of the containers we can recycle are: milk cartons, yogurt containers, tin cans and lunch mate containers (show each item as you read them out loud). If you are not sure, look for a recycling symbol with the number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 on it. If there is a number, you can put it in the BLUE container recycling bin. If you cannot find a number, it must go in the garbage bin (show students the bottom of a container with the recycling symbol and number). Before you put things in the container recycling bin, remember: Empty leftover food into the garbage. Remove covers from containers. Put glass in the garbage bin. You can also put mixed containers in the small blue recycling bin in your classroom (show students small blue container recycling bin).

5 BLUE Mixed Containers Remember MILK CARTONS go in the bin with the
SLIDE 5: Remember, milk containers DO NOT belong in the BEVERAGE RECYCLING bin. Milk Cartons go in the BLUE mixed container recycling bin. Before you put milk containers in the container bin: Empty any leftover milk. All milk containers have to be emptied before they can go in the container recycling bin.

6 GREY PAPER Paper goes in the bin SLIDE 6:
We can now recycle paper at school. There is a lot of paper and cardboard used at school. It can now go in the GREY paper recycling bin.  Some examples of paper and cardboard are: newspapers, exercise books, loose leaf, construction paper, magazines and lunch mate cardboard covers (show each item as you read them out loud). Some paper still needs to go in the garbage: Paper cups (show paper cup) Paper plates (show paper plate)  Paper napkins or tissues and paper towels (show paper napkin) You can also put paper in the small GREY paper recycling bin in your classroom (show students small grey paper bin).

7 Some things still go in the GARBAGE! SLIDE 7:
The new recycling program is great for our school, but there are some things that just can’t be recycled. Here are some things that still need to go in the garbage: Styrofoam, glass jars, plastic bags, straws, bottle caps, plastic wrap, chip bags and other snack bags, paper plates, paper cups and paper napkins, foil, plastic forks and spoons and coffee cups (show each item as you read them out loud).

8 SLIDE 8: Before you put something in the recycling bin, remember: Scrape leftover food into the garbage. Empty leftover liquid into a sink or sop bucket. Remove bottle caps, straws and lids. They must go in the garbage. Make sure you put your waste in the right bin. If you are not sure, ask a teacher for help. Remember, you can also check the recycling poster in your classroom.

9 Help other schools learn to recycle MORE.
Why we should recycle: Send less to landfills Protect the earth Help other schools learn to recycle MORE. SLIDE 9: Our school is lucky to be part of the Recycle at School program. It’s up to you and me to help our school and the environment by recycling more!  The Recycle at School program is important. Our school will send less garbage to landfills. This helps protect the earth. We will help teach other schools how to recycle. Let’s do our best. We can recycle more!

10 SLIDE 11: Thank you for listening to our Recycle at School Presentation. Do you have any questions?
