1 Unsaturated Hydrocarbons
Section 25-2 Unsaturated Hydrocarbons

2 Alkenes- hydrocarbon containing carbon-carbon double covalent bonds.
Unsaturated compounds – contain fewer hydrogens in their structure Saturated compounds – contain max amount of hydrogen ( like alkanes)

3 To Name an alkene Find the parent chain. Name gets an –ene ending.
The chain is numbered so the atoms of carbon in the double bond are the lowest. Substituents are named the same as alkanes.

4 Ethene (or ethylene) is the simplest alkene.

5 Name these babies! 1. CH2 CH-CH2-CH3 2. H H CH3 C C CH3 3. CH3 H H
CH3 CH C C CH3

6 Alkynes- hydrocarbons with a triple bond
Not common in nature. Ethyne is the simplest. Also called acetylene – used in welding

7 Section 25.3 Isomerism Structural Isomers – Compounds that have the same molecular formula but different molecular structures.

8 Ur done.
