TeacherTwins©2015

2 Warm Up Find the area of each rectangle. 48cm2 30cm2 264cm2 108cm2 6cm
1. 2. 10cm 48cm2 30cm2 8cm 3cm 9cm 108cm2 22cm 264cm2 3. 4. 12cm 12cm

3 Example 1: Find the perimeter of the rectangle with the coordinates
(-1,8), (2,8), (-1,2), (2,2). Graph the ordered pairs on the coordinate plane.

4 Add the sides. 6 units = 18 units 3 units

5 Example 2: Find the area of the figure with the coordinates
(-1,8), (2,8), (-1,2), (2,2). Graph the ordered pairs on the coordinate plane.

6 A = 6 x 3 = 18 units2 The figure is a rectangle so use the formula
A = length x width. A = 6 x 3 = 18 units2

7 Example 3: Find the perimeter and area of the rectangle with coordinates
(-4, -2), (-4, -6), (3, -2), (3, -6). You can find the distance between the points without graphing. Distance between (-4, -2) and (-4, -6) = 4 units Distance between (-4, -2) and (3, -2) = 7 units

8 Perimeter = = 22 units Area = 4 x 7 = 28 units2

9 Practice Find the perimeter and area of the rectangles with the coordinates (-2, 4), (-3, 4), (-2, 6), (-3, 6). P = = 6 units A = 1 x 2 = 2 units2

10 Closure P = 4 + 4 + 6 + 6 = 20 units A = 4 x 6 = 24 units2
Find the perimeter and area of the rectangle with coordinates of (-2,5), (4, 5), (-2, 1), (4, 1). P = = 20 units A = 4 x 6 = 24 units2
