2 Fig. 1 Activation of RAS in human HCC. In contrast to other cancers, the rate of activating mutations in the RAS gene locus is low in human HCC [17,18]. The new study of Calvisi et al. supports a new concept indicating that RAS activation occurs in the majority of human HCC via inactivation of RAS inhibitory GAPs and PITX1. The figure depicts the percentage of RAS activating alterations in human HCC. The data provide experimental support for the use of RAS-targeting therapies in the treatment of human HCC (HCC, hepatocellular carcinoma, HCCP, hepatocellular carcinoma with poor prognosis).
