1 nasa missions

2 Blast off! Voyager 2’s mission started at Kennedy Space Center on the 20th of August 1997, and Voyager 1 followed on 16 days later on the 5th of September. Despite leaving later Voyager 1 reached Jupiter first because they each had a unique route.

3 The mission The original mission was to explore Jupiter and Saturn. Whilst near Jupiter Voyager 1 discovered volcanoes on Io which was one of it’s moons. After going to Jupiter, it encountered Saturn on the 9th of September Whilst checking out Saturn the spacecraft found three new moons orbiting the planet : Atlas, Prometheus and Pandora. Voyager one took a picture of Titan, which scientists think shows there could be seas of liquid methane (a type of gas) hidden under the surface.

4 where voyager 2 went first
During the mission Nasa decided to extend it, Voyager 1 went to Neptune and Nasa decided to send Voyager 2 to Uranus. Whilst zooming around Neptune it found 6 new moons and took the first photos of Neptune’s rings. Voyager 2 also revealed that one of Neptune’s moons , Triton, has geysers that spit out nitrogen ice from the surface.

5 CASSINI There have been lots of Nasa missions. One of those was Cassini. After launching on the 15th of October 1997, it set off on a seven year journey to Saturn which turned out to last 19 years, as Nasa kept extending it because it was so successful.

6 Cassini ends its mission
Cassini ended its mission on the 15th of September Cassini was just one month shy of its 20th anniversary whilst crashing into the unknown…
