27 units at Entry Level 1, 2 and 3, grouped in to 5 skills areas Independent Living Personal Communication and Number Vocational Arts and Leisure 14 units have been taken from CCEA’s existing Entry Level qualifications and 13 have been written for this specification Students complete any 6 units; no mandatory units. Certification is available for each individual unit Each unit has 20 guided learning hours. Qualification has 120 total 100% internally assessed; externally moderated

7 Assessment of Learners’ Work
Q. How will the work be assessed? Learners’ task work and portfolio work will be teacher-assessed, using the Assessment Criteria as set out in the Specification Each unit will be assessed as either: Pass Fail

8 Assessment and Delivery
Q. Will marks be awarded? No awarding of marks and no examinations Q. How long will this qualification take to complete? Each unit has a recommendation of 20 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) - a full ELQ award is a total of 120 GLHs

9 Q: Can more than one teacher deliver the Life Skills qualification?
A: Yes. There is no requirement for the same teacher to deliver all 6 units. Centres with more than one teacher assessing the outcomes for the specification must carry out internal standardisation Q: Must all 6 units be completed within a set period of time? A: No. Units are available for the lifetime of the specification

13 Meeting the requirements of a unit
All units within these quals are pass/fail Must provide evidence that the student has met all of the assessment criteria. If any of this is missing or insufficient a level cannot be achieved in that unit “Evidence” does not have to be written. Wide range of formats are acceptable e.g. Photos Video clips Witness statements Posters Worksheets with responses circled/ticked

14 Command word suggests the type of evidence needed e.g.
“Demonstrate….” = photo, video, witness statement “Identify…….” = worksheet, written response, photo, witness statement of oral response. The evidence must therefore be: sufficient – appropriately meeting the amount and range of evidence specified; appropriate – relevant to the skill demonstrated and providing evidence to substantiate the skill; adequate – meets the required standard for the skill

Learning outcomes Assessment Criteria E1 The learner will: The learner can: 1. Be able to identify emotions and how to manage them 1.1 recognise two emotions 1.2 recognise two things that can happen when they feel low 1.3 identify one way to get help when they feel low 1.4 participate in a group activity to identify their emotions over a given period of time, for example keep a feelings chart for one week. Assessment Criteria E2 The learner can: 1.1 recognise three emotions 1.2 give two examples of what can happen when someone feels low 1.3 identify two ways of getting help when someone feels low 1.4 identify their emotions over a given period of time, for example keep a feelings chart for one week. 1.5 participate in a group activity to make choices in a given stressful situation Assessment Criteria E3 The learner can: 1.1 describe three emotions 1.2 give three examples of what can happen when someone is feeling low 1.3 identify three ways of getting help when someone feels low 1.4 make a plan to manage their own emotions that includes three emotions their associated actions and one positive way to manage them 1.5 select appropriate choices in two given stressful situations

Choose FOUR things that you think you could do in your everyday life. Describe them below 1. I could start going back to swimming once a week. If I do this it means I will be exercising regularly which can help to look after our mental health  2. People can feel down when they are alone for a long time. I could arrange to see my friends at the weekends and make a plan to go to the cinema.  3. I am very close to my older sister. She is good at listening and I feel comfortable talking to her about my problems. I know that I can talk to her if I need anything. 4. We have discussed healthy eating in class and how it can help to keep our bodies and our minds healthy. If we eat too much junk food it can make us feel tired and sluggish and sometimes start to feel a bit low. I could make sure that most of food is healthier by starting to eat some more fruit and vegetables during the day and saving junk food for treats.

If a student completes 6 units for overall Entry Level Life Skills they may complete a further 6 units to achieve a second qualification: Entry Level Extended Life Skills This is still available at Entry Level 1, 2 or 3 Must be 6 units they have not previously completed

37 Moderation Internally assessed by the teacher – confirms that the work submitted meets the assessment criteria Students may be entered for individual units each year and “cash-in” for the overall Entry Level when they are ready to- no time limit. Deadline for entries is end of January School receives a sample list i.e. a list of candidates for each unit that the moderator will look at School sends the work of these candidates to CCEA for moderation in April The moderator will confirm if the work meets the assessment criteria School receives its results before end of June of that academic year.
