Room should be closed and unoccupied for 45 minutes after patient discharge. Do not remove sign until room terminally cleaned.

2. AIRBORNE PRECAUTIONS
1. N95 respirator or PAPR must be worn to enter the room.
2. The patient must be placed in a private room that has monitored negative air pressure. If a negative pressure room is not available, page Infection Control
3. The door(s) must remain closed at all times.
4. Patients should be transported for essential purposes only. A surgical mask must be worn by the patient during transport. The receiving department should be notified by the nursing pod/unit that Airborne Precautions are required.
5. Visitors should wear the special TB respirator (N95) when entering the patient’s room. Visitors do not have to be fit tested to this respirator but should be shown how to wear it correctly
6. After discharge, doors must remain closed for 45 minutes before placement of new patient. Staff should wear a N-95 for 45 minutes after patient discharge.
