Field – Data are collected at the company itself; interviewer comes to collect the data in a face-to-face interview Telephone – Data are collected by telephone interview, during which interviewer inputs the information into the computer system Self-completion – Data are collected using questionnaires that the respondent/reporting party fills out independently: Mailed paper questionnaire Web questionnaire

EU Twinning Project Surveys Department Family Surveys The family survey sector performs surveys – mostly ongoing – among individuals and households about a variety of topics, such as: employment and unemployment, standard of living, health, education, and leisure. Surveys Department Business Surveys The business survey sector conducts a wide variety of surveys that cover almost all possible areas of activity among companies and businesses in Israel. For example: R&D, import and export of goods and services, waste and sewage handling, vacant jobs, and innovation. In total, we implement between 50 and 70 business surveys.

9 EU Twinning Project Surveys Department Process of Training Interviewers: Components Common to Family and Business Surveys Interviewer Guide: Guide explaining the survey topic, survey questionnaire, and work procedures. Given to interviewers about two weeks before the training. Interviewer exercise booklet: Booklet of questions about the survey topic, given together with the interviewer guide. Interviewer hands in solved booklet on training day. Interviewer training: One or more days of training, delivered by survey coordinators, during which there is extensive discussion of the topics in the Guide.

10 EU Twinning Project Surveys Department Process of Training Interviewers: Common to Family and Business Surveys Refresher day: During the survey period, there is a seminar day during which we raise difficulties and problems with the data collection process and data quality. Interviewers raise dilemmas and difficulties from the field. Accompanying interviewers: Survey coordinators regularly accompany the interviewers in their work. The purpose is to supervise the interviewers’ work and help them with difficulties they encounter.

Interviewer’s Work Procedures Description of the procedures and operations carried out by the interviewer before going out to the field, during enumeration in the field, and after returning from the field. For most questions, there is an explanation about the purpose of the question and important points for the interviewer to pay special attention to. Computer and Transmission Explanation of operating the laptop computer and transmitting data to the Survey Headquarters

Critical topics appear in only some of the guides. Topics relevant to multiple surveys appear in different forms in the different guides.
