2 Objectives of the unit LO 1: Developing a storyboard: creating a storyline for a computer game under consideration of the civic heritage of the own region, deciding the environment, drawing a virtual map LO 2: Character creation: creating video game characters to RPG games combine with the knowledge of civic heritage, visualizing the characters, writing dialogues LO 3: Define playability: making a list what a video game needs to be successful and adopting them to introduce the civic heritage, designing the levels/stages/areas, building in the game goals, challenges, rewards

3 1. Developing a storyboard

4 Task 1. How to build up a story structure for a video game with civic heritage elements?

5 Why do we need it? Makes the production process easier
Best way to share your vision Saves you time Keeps you organized Easier to identify factors of effectiveness for creating a storyboard with the elements of civic heritage

6 Task 2. Plan an adequate cyber environment with civic heritage elements in which the story will take place!

7 Task 3. Draw a virtual map about the game (draw sketches of every levels) Task 4. Make group discussion about the conclusions (what are the most important parts of a storyboarding etc.)

8 2. Character creation

9 Task 1. Create your RPG characters (hero, villains, NPCs) combine with the knowledge of civic heritage – personality, qualities, history, intention, point of motivation etc.

10 (Hi)story comes first Characters are constructed: emotions, assumptions about the world, goals, likes and dislikes, enemies and friends etc. But most importantly is their history (start with this!) The history of the hero is the connection point to the civic heritage! And it makes the relation stronger to the character

11 Task 2. How to build up your characters?
It’s an archetype Clear motivation for his/her activities Use a video game character as our avatar to explore the knowledge we want to transfer through the game Easy identification

12 Define the look/make sketches
play with a few different styles in order to determine which ones suit your aesthetic and skill levels the best begin with simple characters

13 Task 3. Write the dialogues of the game (game vocabulary)

14 One of the most toughest challenge The necessary may speak:
A, „Hail, noble traveler.  Please, permit me to beseech your aid.  I am Jasper, a peasant in service to Count Marlborough.  A pack of wolves have taken to my flock of prized sheep.  I intended to give one to the Count as a tribute for this year’s harvest festival.  If you kill 10 of them, I will reward you with 50 gold pieces.„ B, "Traveler, help me!  Giant wolves have taken to my flock.  Kill 10 and I will give you 50 gold pieces.„ The conversations have to move the player forward

17 Task 2. Design the levels/stages/areas of the game

18 Task 3. Build in the game goals, challenges, rewards (Don’t forget educational environment and purposes!)
