District Governor 4-C1_2008-2009 PDG WM “Bob”Garr b. June 13, 1937 – d
District Governor 4-C1_ PDG WM “Bob”Garr b. June 13, 1937 – d. December 5, 2017 PDG Bob grew up in Southern California, completed Fresno High in 1955 and went on to Fresno State for a year, entered active duty with the Marine Corps in 1956, then returned to college at Orange Coast in Orange County. He also worked as a fireman. During this time married his first wife, Cassie and attended Santa Ana College and Long Beach State, where he obtained his bachelors degree in Public Administration/Political Science. He held various management positions in cities, counties and special districts throughout California during his 25+ years as well as some consulting on the side. He also taught at the graduate level with Golden Gate University. After the death of his first wife, he met and married a kindred soul, Lion Helen, who was his constant companion from that time until his passing. Their combined family consists of six children and 15 grandchildren. PDG Bob joined the Live Oak Lions Club in In July of 2000, when he and Helen transferred to the Enterprise Lions Club. During his years of Lions service he held many offices and served on many committees at the club, region and district levels, eventually becoming District Governor. Bob also served on the council of his church, served as a Deacon and participated in the annual vacation bible camp for children. And he was known as the guy handing out free coffee and donuts to participants and spectators at the Redding Annual Turkey Trot - rain or shine.

District Governor 4-C1_ PDG Lee Hollowell b. December 7, 1940 – d. April 1, 2017 Lee was born December 7, He served 23 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy. After retiring from the Navy, District Governor Lee worked as an Office Manager and Real Estate Investor for 27 years. PDG Lee Hollowell, Jr. joined the Shingletown Lions Club in In 2005, Lion Lee was honored with the District Governor’s appreciation Award for the service he gave during the Manton, California Fire. In , Lion Lee received the International President’s Membership Excellence Year Round Growth Award and the President’s Retention Campaign Award. Lion Lee has attended several MD-4 Conventions and is a graduate of the Senior Leadership Institute. In addition to his Lions activities, he was the Past Regional President West Coast, for the Fleet Reserve Association/FRA. The FRA is a congressionally chartered non-profit organization representing the interests of current and former enlisted members of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. He is survived by his wife Lion Jan, their four children, five grandchildren and one grandchild.

District Governor 4-C1_1981-1982 PDG Jerry Taylor b. May 15, 1932 – d
District Governor 4-C1_ PDG Jerry Taylor b. May 15, – d. August 1, 2017 Born Jerome Wagner Taylor on May 15, He married Carol Jo Hall in After a two year draft in the U.S. Army in Korea, Jerry attended Cal-Poly before accepting a position as a school teacher. He was President of the Redding Breakfast Lions Club. Jerry was Exalted Ruler of the Redding Elks Lodge #1073 in In 1983, he served on the Shasta County Grand Jury and was Commodore of the Shasta Lake Boaters for several terms. Jerry refereed high school football and basketball games and coached wrestling, basketball and track at Sequoia School. He was president of the Teachers Bowling League for 30 years. Jerry is greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Carol; daughters: Cynthia (Rich) Simmons, and Valerie (Brad) Hollingsworth; grandchildren: Ian Wallace, McKenna Hollingsworth and Taylor Hollingsworth; sister: Joyce Richards, a niece, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane, and his parents.

District Governor 4-C3_ PDG Ed Fipps b. February 15, 1940 – d. September, 2017 Lion Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He ran a successful contracting business “Fipps & Sons”. He has filled many positions throughout his time with the Lions. He first became a Lion with the Albany Lions Club and then the Pinole Lions Club, which he joined in Lion Ed was a Life Member of the Lions Eye Foundation and had served as President of two Lions Blind Centers. Lion Ed and his wife Cindy were married for nearly 50 years. He is survived by his wife, five children and two grandchildren.

District Governor 4-C5_ PDG Vivian Cline-Shinn b. February 6, 1944 – d. December 17, 2017 Lion Vivian, 73 passed away in Washington Utah peacefully with their sister and oldest son by her side. Vivian was born in Oklahoma and went to Woodland High School, CA. She married Policeman Wayne Cline in 1963 and the couple had 3 children, Dennis, Cami and Bert. Vivian joined the Reveille Lions Club and became very active as Lion tamer, 1VP, President, Zone Chair, Region Chair, White Can Chair, Women’s Development Chair, Vice Governor and District Governor. After her husband died, she met up with her High School Sweetheart Milton E. Shinn, they married and together they charted the Yolo Sunset Lions Club. Vivian was an advocate for Lion Leadership training.

District Governor 4-C6_ PDG Lucas J. Zaballos b – d. October 21, 2017 Lion Lucas, from Hayward California, was a graduate of Cal Poly and entered the U.S. Army in 1943 serving in Europe. Multiple business owner from wine retail to real estate, Lion Lucas joined the Santa Cruz Host Lions Club in He served various leadership positions during his time with the Lions. Lion Lucas is survived by his wife Evelyn of almost 70 years.

District Governor 4-A1_ PDG Dennis Coyle Noble b. August 8, 1934 – d. July 27, 2017 Born in Martinez, California on August 8, 1934, Dennis died at home on July 27, 2017 with his family by his side. In 1956, Dennis graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA with a degree in Geological Engineering and in 1979 from Lincoln University as Juris Doctor. In 1958, he married Barbara Pierson in Berkeley, California. During his early years Dennis was employed by Shell Oil Company. In 1975, Dennis and his partner opened Albert Noble Development, a real estate development company, and successfully built many neighborhood centers throughout Tracy and the Bay Area. In 1989, Dennis opened his law practice. Dennis was an active member of the Tracy Breakfast Lions Club. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and his son, William Pierson Noble. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara, and his daughters, Tracy Noble of Ceres, California, Patricia Cantrell (Steven) of Maineville, Ohio, and Christine Kackley (Robert) of Salida, California. He was lovingly known as ‘Papa’ to his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

District Governor 4-A2_ PDG Robert J. Sheets b. March 1, 1928 – d. April 14, 2016 Lion Bob was born in Pomona, California. He married Bertha in They have three children: Donna, Robert and Jeff, and three granddaughters: Holli, Ashley and Amber. His business was in the farming and feed supply industry. Lion Bob joined the Terra Bella Lions Club in He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons and the Eastern Star. He was a charter member of the Porterville Masonic High Twelve. He was on the Terra Bella school board for many years, past President of the Tulare County School Board Association, and past President of the Terra Bella Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Clipper Club in Terra Bella.

District Governor 4-A3_2011-2012 PDG Richard “Dick” Kane b. 1944 – d
District Governor 4-A3_ PDG Richard “Dick” Kane b – d. August 31, 2017 Richard Lemar Kane lived until the age of 73. PDG Dick grew up in the Southern California desert and attended California Western University where he achieved a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences, and then obtained his Master's in Education from United States International University. After a few years in Southern California, he married and moved with his wife Evelyn and young children to the Central Coast, settling in Los Osos in PDG Dick was an active member of the community where he pursued his career in Insurance. Born to the daughter of a Methodist Minister, Richard was raised a Methodist and stayed true to his faith throughout his life. He was well known for his charitable works at Trinity United Methodist Church, the Lions Club as well as volunteering for the Chamber of Commerce. Lion Dick is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children: Benjamin and Paula; and three grandchildren: Shea, Kaelin and Jaden.

District Governor and Council Chair 4-L1_ PCC Clyde G. Golding b. November 12, 1926 – d. April 27, 2017 Clyde C. Golding and his wife, Jayne retired to Lubbock, Texas, in 2007 from Palmdale, CA, where he was owner of the Antelope Valley Insurance Agency and Chairman of the Board of the Antelope Valley Banks. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He graduated from UCLA. He was a Governor of the Lions Club for California, Nevada, and Arizona. Clyde was a philanthropist in the Antelope Valley communities, helping hospitals and other organizations throughout his 60 years there. He is survived by his wife, Jayne; four daughters, Kristin, Denette, Diane, and Marta; stepson, Thomas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Greta and his parents.

District Governor 4-L1_ PDG Yasin “Lucky” Lakhani b. January 12, – d. March 9, 2017 Lion Yasin “Luky” Lakhani was born in Mumbai, India. PDG Lucky was a CPA, Real Estate Broker and registered with the State Bar of California as a foreign applicant. Lion Lucky was a successful business man, Loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a progressive, committed Lion for nearly 40 years. Lucky’s father was totally blind and his understanding and compassion for the visially impaired became a charge of activism fighting for any project that supports eye sight. His slogan was “Eyes should See”. Lucky is survived by his wife Zinobia of over 40 years and his two children Zakir and Zeba, both of whom are Lions. Lion Lucky’s motto was “Service – A Way of Life”. “Eyes should See”

District Governor 4-L3_1982-1983 PDG Jesse Blaine “J. B. ” Graner b
District Governor 4-L3_ PDG Jesse Blaine “J.B.” Graner b. September 16, – d. March 20, 2017 Jesse Blaine, known all his life as "J.B.," Graner, lived until 95 and passed away at his home in the presence of his loving wife, Ziba Graner. PDG J.B. was born in Hollywood, California. He attended Cal-Tech University, MIT and the University of Southern California. Lion J.B. began his military reign in 1942 volunteering to serve his country in the United States Navy and was awarded numerous medals during WWII. After his return from active duty, J.B. took over as President of the family business, Graner Oil Company. He very much enjoyed sharing stories about summers in Minnesota, anything related to the oil industry, cars and his Navy history. Lion J.B. is preceded in death by: his first wife, Mary Jane Bardeen Graner; his second wife, Suna Heravi Graner; and his daughter, Christine Marie Graner. He is survived by his wife: Ziba Daryabegi-Graner; his brother: Wallace H. "Wally" Graner; his sons: Steven Charles & Robert Blaine Graner; his grandsons: Andrew S. & Matthew Blaine Graner; and his granddaughters: Melissa Christine & Michelle Kathleen Graner and Jennifer Blayne Hellow.

Past International Director District Governor 4-L PID Dr. Warren E. Greene b. June 21, 1921 – d. March The late Past Director Dr. Greene became a Lion in He was a Key Member, and Life Member of the Monterey Park Lions Club. He was responsible for the chartering of the first Leo club in California, and was the founder of the California-Nevada White Cane Days. He also served on the Executive Committees of the Southern California Lions Eye Institute and Junior Blind of America®. In appreciation of his service to the association, the late Past Director Dr. Greene received nine International President's Awards, two District Governor's Extension Awards, the Leo Award for Public Relations, the 65-year Monarch Chevron, Humanitarian Partner Bronze and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor awarded to association members. He was also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. As an Optometrist, the late Past Director Dr. Greene enjoyed a successful career was involved in community activities and recipient of numerous civic awards. He was named the "Most Valuable Citizen of Monterey Park" by the American Legion, and the "Outstanding Young Man of Monterey Park" by the Jaycees.

District Governor 4-L3_1987-1988 PDG Henry P. Pagkalinawan b
District Governor 4-L3_ PDG Henry P. Pagkalinawan b. March 1, 1928 – d. October 19, 2017 Lion Henry grew up in the Philippines. He was a CPA and joined the Office of Economic Coordination, where he rose from the ranks to become the youngest Chief of Budget and Finance. He joined the Barangay Lions Club in 1968 in the Philippines and the Kayumanggi Lions in California in Henry served many positions of Leadership for Lions. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Loring, their six children and four granddaughters.

District Governor and Council Chair 4-L4_ PCC Ed Bordenkircher b. Mar 2, 1937 – d. Nov 18, 2017 Lion Ed was born March 2, Ed gained degrees in Economics and Educational Administration. After serving with the U.S. Army he entered the teaching profession. Lion Ed was a member of the Ontario Host Lions Club. He has held many positions in the Lions Organization. Lion Ed was active in many other community affairs, as well as an antique business. He enjoyed sports of all kinds. PCC Ed is survived by his wife Barbara and two children.

District Governor 4-L5_ PDG Emmette W. Anderson b. November 1, – d. February 16, 2017 PDG Emmette was born in Duncan, OK in He graduated from the University of Redlands in He married Phyllis Robertson in They were married for 74 years when Phyllis passed away in Lion Emmette served in the Army Air Force during WWII and was stationed in India. Emmette and Phyllis lived in Fontana for 50 years. He was a teacher and principal in the Colton School District. Lion Emmette was a charter member of the Bloomington Lion's Club and joined the Calimesa Breakfast Lion's Club when they moved to Yucaipa in 1996. He was an active member of Fontana Community Church and the First Baptist Church Yucaipa for many years. He is survived by his sons Robert and wife Sandy of Calimesa, CA and Dennis and wife Jan of Center Point, TX. As well as, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.

District Governor 4-L5_ PDG John L. Ballard b. July 22, – d. June 18, 2017 Lion John attended Arizona State on a music scholarship playing the tuba. John worked in the Electrical Industry followed by his Grand Slam Travel Club, a sea cruise agency. Lion John joined the Rialto Host Lions Club in John was a past City planning commissioner and Chairperson of the rent review commission of the City of Rialto. Lion John and his wife Suzanne were married for 60 years. He is survived by his wife, three children and his granddaughter.

District Governor 4-L5_ PDG John D. Bodnar b. November 14, 1936 – d. September 19, 2017 Lion John earned a degree in Chemistry from Rutgers University. Lion John was very active in both the Lions and his community. He married his wife Mary Jane in 1975, her with her one son and John with his four making one big happy family. A decorated Lion, John joined the Murrieta Lions Club in 1994.
