2 Prepositions - Definition
“ Preposition is a word used before Noun or Pronoun to show its relation with other Noun or pronoun of the sentence.” For example The Bird is on the tree. In this sentence we have two nouns – ‘Bird’ and ‘Tree’ The relation of bird with tree is shown by preposition ‘On’. It means that Bird is sitting on Tree Now you find the relation between the nouns of the given sentences: - Mohan lives at Shahadra. He was sitting in the room. The dog ran on the road. I am tired of talking.

4 Down Over Up Prepositions – Movement I walked up the stairs.
I walked down the stairs. Cat jumped over the box.

5 Toward Past Away Prepositions - Movement
The bus moved away from the bus station. I moved towards the house. The express train moved past the station.

Students moved into the class Room After the class the teacher came out of class. Earth is moving around the sun.

7 Off Across Onto Prepositions - Movement
I put the books onto the table. The film Hero jumped off the tall building. I ran my car across the bridge.

On the way to Shimla the train passed through many long tunnels. The river flows under the bridge.

9 Rabbit is hiding behind the box. Rabbit is sitting in front of box.
Prepositions - Position In Front of In Behind Rabbit is hiding behind the box. Rabbit is sitting in front of box. The Rabbit is in the box.

10 Between Over By Prepositions - Position
Rabbit is sitting by the side of box. Rabbit is sitting between the blue and red boxes. The Rabbit is above the box.

Famous for – Amitabh is famous for his excellent acting skills. Fond of – Children are fond of sweets. Full of – The glass is full of Milk. Good at – he is good at Mathematics. Honest in – He is honest in his dealings. Hope for – Lencho hoped for a good rain shower. Injurious to – Smoking is injurious to health. Interest in – I am interested in my studies Junior, senior, superior to – I am junior to my friend in office.

Laugh at – you should not laugh at the poor people. Listen to – you listen to your teacher when he teaches you. Married to – Lord Rama was married to Sita. Popular among– The teacher is popular among students. Prefer to – I will prefer to take coffee. Prepare for – I have to prepare for debate competition. Proud of – I am proud of you. Quarrel with – Don’t quarrel with your neighbours. Related to – He is discussing the issues related with his family. Search for – police is searching for the robbers. Sorry for – I am sorry for my mistakes. Surprised at – They are surprised at your behaviour. Talk to – You should be very polite when you talk to your elders. Thankful to – I will be thankful to you for your support. Useful for – You are not useful for my organization. Wish for – I always wish for your good health. Wonder at – I wondered at the sight of marvelous Tajmahal.
