Dramaturge’s statement
The Great Depression was a widespread economic recession lasting from 1929 to In Oedipus Rex, the sheer suffering of Oedipus is reflected in the environment of our adapted time period. The industrial background of Gary, Indiana brings to mind images of smoke producing factories and the hard toil of the common people. These common people, affected by the recession, seek for a solution to the seemingly divine-induced tragedy. Oedipus, our leader the mayor, swears to find that answer, but his downfall ends all hope.

Director’s Statement The sense of fear of the unknown is always in everyone's mind. Fear of the unknown future is also as deeply rooted in everyone. The morality behind who a person is and what they can turn into if fallen into the wrong path is something we've all wanted to depict through this play. Predictions and results are two completely different things that could end with a positive message or negative message about destiny. Oedipus chose the arrogant way to take his destiny, and that's something everyone should realize. Once you think you know what will already happen, the path laid out blank and clean has been corrupted with naive attempts at controlling what should never be disturbed.
