Men and women have an intrinsic dignity and worth, because they were created in God’s likeness to know, love, and serve him. But now through sin every part of their humanness have been distorted. Human beings have become self-centered, self-serving rebels, who do not love God or their neighbour as they should. In consequence, they are alienated both from their Creator and from the rest of his creation, which is the basic cause of the pain, disorientation, and loneliness which so many people suffer today.
