HIGH SCHOOL SPANISH 1 Sra. Kimberly Harris ¡BIENVENIDOS! WELCOME

¡Hola! Hi! I’m Señora Harris, and I am excited about working with you to earn your high school credit in Spanish 1. Each section will have lessons that have short presentations, quizzes, and an exam. Because learning Spanish will involve the development of memorization skills, there are two techniques you will need to practice. These techniques will be covered in the slide titled “Memorization Techniques.” Brief practice assignments are designed to help develop your reading, writing, and listening skills. It is important that you complete your assignments daily, and that you spend 20 to 25 minutes each night memorizing your vocabulary words. Learning Spanish can be an exciting and rewarding.

Memorization Techniques
Technique #1 “Hide and Seek” (Helps you practice reading and spelling the language.) Fold a piece of ruled notebook paper in half vertically (the long way). On one side of the line write the English word and on the other side write the Spanish word equivalent. Study the words side by side for 5 minutes. Then fold the paper in half so only the English word is visible. Take out another piece of blank ruled notebook paper, place your English folded side next to the blank side, and write the Spanish equivalent. Don’t get stuck on a word; skip ones you do not know and complete the list. Technique #2 “Write, Write, Speak!” (Helps you practice writing and speaking the language.) Writing is a great practice to help you remember information that you are learning. You’ve been taking notes for years, so “Write it down!” Take a piece of ruled notebook paper and write down your Spanish words and phrases at least 3 times each. As you write the word or phrase try saying it out loud!

¡Vámonos! You don’t have to understand everything! Listen and practice speaking the language as often as you can. Over time your listening and speaking skills will develop! Most importantly…have fun! Now “Vámonos” (¡Let’s go!) Contact:
