2 THE FOUR YEAR APPLIED COURSES ARE DESIGNED TO equip students with professional skills to supplement the knowledge acquired through DC- I and II. to foster certain practical skills to engage them actively with precise tasks and goals, within a workshop – like environment

3 those students who will begin their third semester in July2014 can opt for these courses. students who have a flare for reading and wish to explore the different offshoots of writing in English, say, academic writing, media writing (creating ads and jingles, script writing, editing articles and so on),theories of drama and structures and teaching of English language and literature should take up these courses.

4 these papers are offered under FYUP in semesters 3, 4, 5 and 6 only. the shuffling in courses can be done in the next semester alone and no request for change will be entertained within the same semester. the selection of suitable students will be based on your first semester results.

5 Paper 1 / Semester 3: Academic Writing and Composition Paper 2 / Semester 4: Media and Communication Skills Paper 3 / Semester 5: Texts and Performance Paper 4 / Semester 6: English Language Teaching

6 The students will be marked on various aspects, wherein Continuous classroom assessment will be divided into Class interaction : 25 marks Projects and Viva Voce ( Individual / Group based) : 25 marks and End semester assessment of 50 marks will be a written group work in the form of research work.

7 This paper will introduce the students to the process of Writing in English which gives them a scope to play with the language. They not only liberate from the clutches of controlled-to-guided writing, but also cement their feet in the open arena of free writing. Also they are exposed to the given below fields:

8 Unit 2: Introduction to the Conventions of Academic Writing Unit 3: Writing in one's own words: Summarizing and Paraphrasing Unit 4: Critical Thinking: Syntheses, Analyses and Evaluation Unit 5: Structuring an Argument: Introduction, Interjection and Conclusion Unit 6: Citing Resources, Editing and Peer Review

9 This particular paper will focus on inculcating a love for and deeper understanding of the media studies to the focus group, through case studies on current issues in Indian journalism, performing street plays, writing pamphlets and posters and so on.

10 Unit 1: Introduction to Mass Communication Unit 2: Advertisement -- wherein students will get a knowhow of creating ads / visualization by enacting them in a group and creating jingles and taglines. Unit 3: Media Writing -- scriptwriting for TV and Radio, editing for print and online media.

11 Unit 4: Introduction to Cyber Media and Social Media -- types and the impact of Social Media and Cyber Media. Unit 5: Media Ethics -- code of conduct for Print and Electronic Media and Ethics of 'Sting Operations'. Unit 6: Corporate Communications / Media Management

12 This paper attempts to make the students develop an analogy between the written text and the demonstrations of the performance on the stage. All the practical and theoretical aspects of a theatre performance are critically studied under various processes. Unit 1: Introduction to theories of Performance with an overview of Western and Indian theatre. Unit 2: Theatrical Forms and Practices -- types of theatre, voice, speech, body movement, gestures and techniques, floor exercises and so on.

13 Unit 3: Theories of Drama -- acting short solo / group performances followed by discussion and analysis. Unit 4: Theatrical Production -- all aspects of production and performance; recording, archiving and data collection. Unit 5: Reading Performance -- reviews of live performances Unit 6: Writing Plays and Adaptations -- script writing, adapting prose and poetry for performance, and examining multiple performance possibilities for the same texts.

14 The paper will surely appeal to those students who wish to be the future teachers and know their students better. It deals with not just the pedagogical issues but also the emotional connect between the learner and the teacher through a language learning module.
