A computer network, often simply referred to as a network, is a collection of computers and devices interconnected by communications channels that facilitate communications among users and allows users to share resources.

A LAN connects network devices over a relatively short distance. A networked office building, school, or home usually contains a single LAN, though sometimes one building will contain a few small LANs (perhaps one per room), and occasionally a LAN will span a group of nearby buildings. In addition to operating in a limited space, LANs are also typically owned, controlled, and managed by a single person or organization. LAN - Local Area Network

1.Connection in small and physical area. 2.Best LAN types used with Ethernet. 3.Faster than WAN. 4.Cheaper. 5.More likely need password validation as it will have specific user rights. 6.More private. 7.Hardware focus on sharing resources. 8.Operate on peer to peer Advantages of LAN

A MAN is a large computer network that usually spans a city or a large campus. A MAN usually interconnects a number of local area networks (LANs) using a high- capacity backbone technology, such as fiber- optical links, and provides up-link services to wide area networks (or WAN) and the Internet. MAN-Metropolitan Area Network

1.Cover a larger geographic area than LAN. 2.Used with in internet & Ethernet. 3.Higher speed. 4.Competitive price 5.Need password validation as it will have specific user rights. 6.High security. 7.Hardware focus on data transmission. 8.Operated by organizations and public utilities Advantages of LAN

As the term implies, a WAN spans a large physical distance. The Internet is the largest WAN, spanning the Earth. A WAN is a geographically-dispersed collection of LANs. A network device called a router connects LANs to a WAN. In IP networking, the router maintains both a LAN address and a WAN address. WAN - Wide Area Network

1.Cover a largest distance. 2.Best WAN types used with Internet. 3.Less speed than LAN. 4.More expensive. 5.Less likely need password validation as it will have specific user rights. 6.Less private. 7.Hardware focus on communication. 8.Operate on client to server. Advantages of LAN
