2 What is a microscope? A curved lens that bends light so that objects look much bigger than they really are Diatom (a type of algae) under a microscope

3 Hand Lenses Work Like Microscopes
1.) Pick up the hand lens on your desk and examine objects of interest with it. 2.) In your notes, record at least THREE observations you had while using the hand lens.

Eyepiece – Where the first lens is in the microscope Objective Lenses- The second set of lenses (vary in magnification) Mechanical Stage- Where you clip in your sample slide Coarse and Fine Focus Adjustment Knobs- How you make the object clear and in focus Illuminator- Where the light comes from

6 Tips for using microscopes
1.) Build up from the LOWEST power lens 2.) Watch the stage as you move to a higher power 3.) Use the course focus first and then the fine focus knob second
