3 Plot (definition) Plot is the organized sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a number of incidents that are related to one another.

4 1. Exposition This usually occurs at the beginning of a short story.
Here the characters are introduced. We also learn about the setting of the story. Most importantly, we are introduced to the main conflict (main problem).

5 2. Rising Action This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). A building of interest or suspense occurs.

6 3. Climax This is the turning point of the story.
It is where the conflict is resolved It typically involves the main character (the protagonist)

7 Conflict: 4 main types Man v. man Man v. nature Man v. society
Character(s) battling each other Good guy v. bad guy Eg. Avengers Man v. nature Character(s) struggling to survive Eg Hours Man v. society Character(s) battling society Eg. Hunger Games Man v. supernatural/fate Character (s) fighing some type of otherworldly being Eg. Greek myths Man v. Himself Character(s) struggling with having to make a choice or a moral decision

8 4. Falling Action All loose ends of the plot are tied up.
This may be VERY short in a short story - it may even be the SAME as the resolution

9 5. Resolution The story comes to a reasonable ending.
