1 Secure Resources – Gyproc Plasterboard
Apply Plaster Materials to Internal Backgrounds

2 Secure Gyproc Plasterboards
Understand the range of Gyproc Plasterboard types and how they are cut and fixed into position

3 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
Introduction One gauge casting is the production of plaster casts in ornate features, for example ceiling roses. The skill being developed relates to casting smaller pieces of work.

4 To show different plasterboards and how to fix them in place.
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds Aims: To show different plasterboards and how to fix them in place. Objectives: To know and recognise different plasterboards, and know how to fix them. 4

5 How many different plasterboards can you name?
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds What do you know: How many different plasterboards can you name? What standard thicknesses are boards available in? What colour is a fire line board? How should boards be stored? Name 2 tools used for cutting plasterboard? Split into groups or as individuals Set a time limit 5

6 PLASTERBOARD Introduction:
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds PLASTERBOARD Introduction: Flat sheets of plaster sandwiched between two layers of paper liner By varying the content of the core and the type of liner used, boards are produced to suit many different requirements Requirements include fire resistance, sound absorption, water resistance or impact resistance Designed to meet all current Building Regs A range of 30 different boards in a wide variety of sizes Use the following link to see plasterboard production 6

7 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
Gyproc WallBoard The standard board product with ivory paper suitable for most applications where normal fire, structural and acoustic levels are required. Manufactured in 9.5mm, 12.5mm and 15mm thickness. Used for internal partitions and ceilings. The following slides are a selection of the most popular boards available, give brief details of uses. 7

8 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
Gyproc WallBoard TEN A Gyproc WallBoard engineered to meet the guidance given in the revised Building Regulations Approved Document Part E. Where used plasterboard must have a mass of 10kg/m² for internal partitions and separating walls in all residential projects, both new build and refurbishment. 8

9 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
Gyproc SoundBloc Gypsum plasterboard with a higher density and sound damping core. Designed for use in British Gypsum wall lining, partition and ceiling systems where greater levels of sound insulation are required. Pale blue coloured face paper. 9

10 Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board Gypsum plasterboard with water repellent additives in the core, encased in a special green paper liner. Suitable as a base for ceramic tiling in wet use areas. Also used for external soffits in sheltered positions. 10

11 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
Gyproc Plank A 19mm thick version of Gyproc WallBoard. Used as the main board in a variety of British Gypsum systems where acoustic performance is a requirement. 11

12 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
Gyproc FireLine Gypsum plasterboard with fibre glass and other additives in the core, used in British Gypsum partition, wall lining and ceiling systems to give increased fire protection. Pink coloured face paper for clear identification on site. Also available in a moisture resistant version. 12

13 Gyproc WallBoard DUPLEX
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds Gyproc WallBoard DUPLEX Gyproc WallBoard backed with a vapour control membrane. Used for wall and ceiling linings where vapour control and a plasterboard lining are required in one fixing operation. Can improve thermal resistance of the lining when facing a minimum 20mm cavity. 13

14 Cutting Gyproc Plasterboards
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds Cutting Gyproc Plasterboards 1. Lay board flat face up. 2. Mark off the measurements required, and place the straight edge up to these marks. Points for discussion: Talk through process in detail, mention use of surform, pad saws and cutting out sockets/ services. 14

15 Cutting Gyproc Plasterboards
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds Cutting Gyproc Plasterboards Run a Kraft knife along the straight edge to score the paper face of the board. Self retracting knifes are the best to use to reduce risk of injury. Points for discussion: Health & Safety PPE 15

17 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
British Gypsum offer you an alternative: The Blade Runner: Points for discussion: Advantages and disadvantages of both cutting methods 17

18 Fixing Centres to Timber
Galvanised nails Every 150mm. Drywall Screws Every 300mm on walls and 230mm on ceilings

19 Fixing of Gyproc Plasterboards
Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds View of ceiling with boards tacked in position and staggered end joints Joists Staggered end joints Talk through in detail the process of plaster boarding, in relation to both ceilings and walls. Not forgetting nail / screw spacing and size in relation to board thickness and background metal stud /wood stud 19

20 Fixing Gyproc Plasterboards To Backgrounds
Fixing of Gyproc Plasterboards The common method is to screw fix plasterboards with Drywall Timber Screws to reduce popping. Not less than 13mm Galvanised clout nail Max 3mm Points for discussion Importance not to break through paper lining Not nailing too close to edge of board Gaps between boards Nail head flush with board Nail pulling back paper liner, not penetrating through 20
