1 The Grid Observatory SSC Towards a Computer Science SSC
Cécile Germain-Renaud on behalf of the GO Cluster

2 Overview Enabling facility towards experimental theory of large grid systems by setting up a data repository, enabling the development of behavioural grid models and supporting the deployment of software experimental facilities. Added value: the integration of its production goal – make available comprehensive and usable grid traces – and the long-term scientific goal of acquiring better knowledge and control of the grid as a complex system Builds on the previous activity of the GO cluster in EGEE-III, which has already successfully realized a grid trace portal and fostered national and international collaborations with the Computer Science community.

3 Scientific and engineering Scope
Autonomic Computing Computer Science: Machine Learning, Distributed Systems Participants: LRI (F, CNRS IdG), MIS (France, CNRS), London Imperial College (UK), UNIPM (Italy) Ongoing discussions with CoreGrid and french national action G5K/Aladdin Support secured from the NSF Center for Autonomic Computing Planning a COST action Computer Engineering: ongoing discussions with IBM, Logica, SixSq EU project RESERVOIR EGI Operations and Middleware

4 Aims Community Portal Maintain a publicly accessible repository of grid traces Contribute to middleware improvement in reliability, stability and performance Foster interaction with Computer Science research (ML, AC, DS)

5 Workplan T1. Data collection and publication
Expand and consolidate the process of acquisition, long-term conservation, and publication of traces of EGEE activity and applications Service Activity (SA) 5.5 FTE (3.5) T2 Grid ontology Concepts and inference for resources (GLUE), grid status, inputs and dynamics. Applications to data consolidation and diagnosis. Joint Research Activity(JRA) 2.5 FTE (1) T3 Foster scientific collaboration Proactively engage the relevant scientific communities and institutions, create and implement the interaction processes, contribute to on-line analysis tools. Networking (NA) 5.5 FTE + unfunded (2.5) T4. Management Coordinate the efforts between national, regional and European level. Manage the SSC and be involved in EGI.eu boards. Management (MGT) 0.5 FTE (0)
