3 Mission Statement: Darrington Family Support and Resource Center is dedicated to serving parents, children, individuals, and communities so they achieve their highest potential. We accomplish this through support in education, outreach, and healthy-option activities that build upon strengths.

4 2011 Statistics: Served an estimated 1,611 unduplicated clients
3 employees 172 volunteers donated nearly 4,000 volunteer hours! It’s a small agency that gets a lot done for this community  Served an estimated 1,611 unduplicated clients Biggest annual event is the Community BBQ in September

5 Activities/Services include:
Monthly Family Night/Community Dinners Easter Egg Hunt Operation School Bell Adult/Youth Mentoring End-of-School Celebration Field Trips Homework Club Teen Nights Service Projects Case Management/Basic Needs Kids on the Go (youth group) Summer Lunch Program

7 My primary responsibilities:
Summer Food Program Serving kids 1 – 18 years old Provides lunch daily to those kids who normally get free/reduced lunch during the school year After lunch, we will plan a fun activity which focuses on literacy

8 My primary responsibilities:
Support /Resources for Basic Needs Agency Referrals Gas Vouchers Budgeting Class

9 And, of course, fundraising. . .
That’s my son - I talked him into modeling for their Spring Fling Fashion Show. 

10 Learning Objectives: Understand and demonstrate ethical and professional behavior Locate and read agency policies regarding ethical and professional behavior, seeking clarification as needed. (1 week) Identify at least five observed examples of ethical/professional behavior and link them with a NOHS standard. (3 weeks) Meet with supervisor at weeks 2, 4, and 8 to assess my strengths and areas for professional development. (8 weeks) Develop a greater understanding of available resources to aid low income families in fulfilling their basic needs Shadow supervisor while counseling eight clients in the area of basic needs (2 weeks) Compile or update agency resource list (3 weeks) Complete one on-site visitation of referring community agency (5 weeks) Identify up to three appropriate resources for five clients (9 weeks)

11 Nervous about: Excited about: On a personal level
Stressing out about balancing Work Internship Childcare Fun (it is summer, after all) On a professional level I worry about Having so much to learn in 9 weeks Giving people wrong information Dealing with confrontational people I am familiar with this agency and feel comfortable with the staff I love the idea of a summer lunch program and will feel great helping kids get a good meal I can involve my kids in some of the groups, activities, etc. This practicum brings us one giant step closer to graduation!
