1 Algebra 2cc Section 2.6 Solve quadratic equations using various methods
Methods for solving quadratic equations Square roots: There is no linear term x2 – 25 = 0 2. Factoring: try factoring x2 – 3x – 10 = 0 3. Complete the square: if the leading coefficient is 1 and the linear coefficient is even x2 – 6x – 3 = 0 4. Quadratic formula: if leading coefficient is not 1 and/or linear coefficient is odd. 2x2 + 7x – 1 = 0 Solve by the easiest method x2- 8x + 2 = 0

2 Solve and name the method used
3x2 + 5x – 11 = 0 x2 + 5x – 14 = 0

3 Solve and name the method used
½ x2 – 5 = 4 3(x-2)2 – 4 = 23

4 The number of horsepower needed to overcome a wind drag on a certain automobile is given by , N(s) = .005s s where s is the speed of the car in miles per hour. At what speed will the car need to use 200 horsepower to overcome the wind drag?
