2 The Silk Road A series of trade
Routes stretching from China to as far as the Roman Empire. The main commodity… SILK Led to the growth of modern Civilization

3 The Great Wall A series of stone and dirt walls in China.
They were built and rebuilt between 5th Century BC and the 16th Century. Used to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties. Myth…It cannot be seen from the moon…. or from the earth’s orbit.

4 The Forbidden City Located in the center of Beijing
Called “Forbidden” city because commoners were not allowed to even approach the walls. It is the world's largest palace complex and covers 74 acres. Yellow is the dominant color at the palace since it is the color of royalty. Housed 24 emperors until 1924 When opened to the public.

5 Tiananmen Square The public square located near the center of Beijing.
Tiananmen means Gate of Heavenly Peace, which are the front gates of the Forbidden City. It was the site of several key events in Chinese history Most notable…The proclamation of the People’s Rep. Of China by Mao in 1949 and the student protests of 1989

6 Terracotta Warriors Located in Xian..the former Chinese capital.
Consisting of 8,099 life-size figures of warriors and horses. Built for the first emperor of the Qin dynasty. Created to help the emperor maintain rule in the afterlife.

8 Economic Force The fourth largest economy in the World and fastest GROWING!! Since 1978 moved from Soviet style “Central Planning” to a More market based economy.--But still within the political structure Of Communism. Only 1/3 of China’s market is government controlled China’s economy Fastest Growing-Since 1978 has doubled Every 8 years Compared to the U.S. Doubled once since 1978

9 Human Rights Restrictions on Free Speech and Media
Restrictions on Religious Practices only few religions recognized by state Torture of prisoners Lack of Judicial process Tibet- arrests for religious practices Women- No equality between sexes.. education, jobs, property
