1 Describing Experiments and Processes

2 A Simple Distillation Experiment
Figure 10.1 shows the apparatus for the separation of solution of water and ethanol. The equipment needed for the experiment consists of the following: a bunsen burner, a florence flask, a thermometer, a condensor and a beaker. First, set up the experiment as in Figure 10.1. Place a solution of 30cc water and 20cc ethanol in the florence flask. Heat the solution. When ethanol begins to evaporate, note the temperature. Collect the distilled ethanol in the beaker. Continue the process untill all the ethanol has evaporated.

3 Pola 1. 1. Set up the equipment.
2. Weight the samples. (Biasanya digunakan dalam pembuatan buku praktikum (laboratory manual) Pola The equipment is set up. 2. The samples are weighed. (Biasanya digunakan dalam textbook)

4 Lengkapi deskripsi berikut berdasarkan proses
Distillation di atas. Gunakan bentuk pasif dari kata kerja. First, the experiment ……………. as in …….... Then, the ethanol/water solution ……………… flask, and ……………… heated. When the ethanol has begun to …………………….., the temperature………………. The distilled ethanol…………………, and the process…….. ………………….. all the ethanol has evaporated.

5 How the Volume of an Irregular Solid is Measured
To determine the density of a solid, Obtain two or three pieces of the solid. Weight the pieces. Partly fill a graduated cylinder with water, and note the water level. Place the pieces in the graduated cylinder. Observe the water level again.

6 6. Calculate the volume of water displaced by the solid. 7
6. Calculate the volume of water displaced by the solid. 7. Calculate the density of the solid.

7 Buatlah deskripsi tentang percobaan di atas.
Two or three pieces ………………………. ……………………………weighed. A graduated cylinder is partly ……………. ……. Is ……………… 4. …………………... Are placed ……………… 5. The water level …………………………….. 6. The volume ……………………………….... 7. ………………………………………………..

8 Beberapa Contoh: (1). After the solid is weighed, it is placed in the graduated cylinder. = After the solid has been weighed, it is placed in the graduated cylinder. (2). When the pieces are weighed, they are placed in the graduated cylinder. = When the pieces have been weighed, they are placed in the graduated cylinder.

9 HUBUNGAN ANTAR KALMAT: RESULT Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) is powerful and cheap. As a result, Therefore, Consequently, So, it is used in many industries.

10 HUBUNGAN ANTAR KALMAT: CAUSE Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) is commondly used in many industries. BECAUSE, AS, SINCE, it is powerful and cheap.

11 The leaves develop in the dark, as a result, they are yellow.
= The leaves are yellow because they are developed in the dark. 2. The demand has increase, as a result, so, therefore, as a consequence, consequently, thus, the prices are higher.

12 2. The demand has increase, as a result, the prices are higher.
= The prices are higher since/because the demand has increase.
