Hamlet Act II By: Hannah, Teej, Colin, Philip, Braedon, Hope Do not use a colon after a preposition. You actually do not need the word by at all.

2 Scene i Summary At the beginning of scene i, Polonius sends his servant Reynaldo to send money to Laertes and spy on his personal life. When Reynaldo leaves, Ophelia enters and tells him that Hamlet has been acting crazy and Polonius says it is because he is madly in love with her. He recommends that she keeps her distance from him.

3 Scene ii Summary When this scene begins, Gertrude and Claudius welcome Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to Elsinore. Polonius then enters and announce the arrival of the ambassadors that Claudius had sent to Norway and recommends that he allow passage of Fortinbras and his army, but Claudius replies that he will attend to this matter later. Polonius continues to tell the King and Queen about Hamlet’s mad love for Ophelia and presents the love letters and poems he has written to her. When Hamlet enters, Polonius and him speak privately, where Hamlet makes witty comments about how old Polonius is and how he selfishly uses Ophelia. When Hamlet finally sees that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are there, he questions their reasoning behind coming and they eventually admit that the King and Queen sent them. Hamlet feels betrayed because of this. When Polonius enters again, he announces the arrival of the Players and Hamlet begins to plot how he will attempt to kill the king. Line 7--Change him to he Line 11- Lowercase players

5 Themes Self doubt Deception Human Mortality Corruption Power of Fate
Hamlet questions his own bravery in his soliloquy at the end of Act II Deception When Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are sent to see Hamlet, they attempt to deceive Hamlet into thinking they are there for him when they are really there to spy on him for the king and queen. Human Mortality Hamlet is considering how to kill the king in Act II. Corruption Polonius is using Ophelia to spy on Hamlet. Power of Fate The fact that the players have come to Elsinore at the time Hamlet wants to attempt to kill the king shows the power that fate has over the play’s events. Spy on, not corrupt Hamlet players have come

6 Quotes “Brevity is the soul of wit.”
Polonius, Personification “Though this be madness, yet there is method in’t.” Polonius, Irony, Deception and Corruption “Remorseless, treacherous, lecherous, kindless, villain!” Hamlet, Assonance, Deception and Corruption “The devil hath power / T’ assume a pleasing shape…” Hamlet, Allusion, Deception and Corruption “The play’s the thing / Wherein I’ll catch the conscience of the king.” Hamlet, Foreshadowing, Dramatic irony, Couplet, Alliteration, Deception and Corruption Brevity Remorseless Devil The play’s

7 Lion King Parody/Allegory
We chose to make a comparison with Hamlet to the popular Disney film, The Lion King. In The Lion King, Mufasa is the king of the jungle, just as Hamlet’s father is the king of Denmark. Mufasa is raising his son, Simba, to be the heir to the throne, but before Simba gets old enough to the age where he can effectively lead the jungle, Mufasa is killed by his brother, Scar. This has Hamlet written all over it, as Scar kills his brother who is king, just as Claudius kills his brother who is also king. Horatio can be compared to Timon and Pumbaa as he is best friends with the main character. Ophelia and Nala are alike as they were each the love interest of the prince. Italicize all references to a film or a play. 2 grammatical errors
