2. JNCHES pay and jobs dispute
Main features of the claim:
A ‘keep up’ claim on pay
A national agreement to minimise redundancies
Addressing poor treatment of ‘hourly paid’ lecturers
Result:
0.4% pay increase (RPI = 5%)
Refusal to consider agreement on redundancies
No concrete steps for hourly paid
Employers not negotiating at “New JNCHES”
UCU and EIS are in dispute, others accepted

3. USS Pensions Some concessions: No movement on:
Index capping: increase or remove cap
Rejoining period: from 6 to months
Promoted staff entering USS with existing final salary pension have 24 months to join to have final salary USS
RPI/CPI index-linking – follow public sector pensions, not ‘hard-wired’ to CPI
No movement on:
Increases to the Normal Pension Age
Redundancy provision
2-tier scheme: CARE for ‘new’ starters
UCU is demanding reopening negotiations

4. Conclusions JNCHES USS UCU is balloting members for industrial action

5. Ballots for industrial action
Two ballots will run concurrently:
Start date: 2 February
End date: 2 March
Ballot papers will go to home addresses
We need a high turnout and a high YES vote in both ballots

UCL UCU will be organising a “Get the Vote Out” Campaign - like last year

6. Motion: defend pay, jobs, pensions and academic freedom
UCLUCU notes:
1. Up to 40,000 jobs are at risk in the HE sector alone.
2. The USS pension scheme is under attack.
3. The UCEA pay offer that is in effect a real-terms pay cut (0.4%).
UCLUCU resolves to:
1. Support and encourage members to attend the student-led demonstration in Central London, Sat 29 January.
2. Campaign for the highest possible turnout and 'Yes' vote in the forthcoming ballots supporting the UCU national campaign to defend jobs, pay and pensions in the HE sector.
UCLUCU reaffirms its support for the two motions passed, in amended form at the General Meeting on 16 December 2010 which express members concerns about the situation in CALT and the FBS PES scheme and propose specific actions to defend members interests and academic freedom.
