1 My Philosophies Cheat while you learn, test individually.
Learning Target I can demonstrate my knowledge of writing historically by authoring multiple quick writes. Cheat while you learn, test individually. If you can’t speak it or write it, you don’t know it. Hope of gain is a better motivator than fear of loss. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Frustration is good! Swing the machete or die on the beach. You have to swing your own machete. I’m cheering for you, but I can’t do it for you.

2 Quick Write Learning Target I can demonstrate my knowledge of writing historically by authoring multiple quick writes. Elevator Answer (Claim/Thesis): Statement the writer is trying to prove is true An opinion or an idea (not a fact or a question) Written as a strong, clear claim about what it is that you believe Able to be supported with a variety of evidence Opposing View (Counterclaim/Rebuttal) Critics argue that…” While it might be true that…, still all in all… Others may say that…but I argue… A common argument against this position is…but… “Show Me” using nouns/dates One example that shows this is… This position is supported by…

3 Geography, Economics, Culture, & Politics Chart
Learning Target I can demonstrate my knowledge of writing historically by authoring multiple quick writes. Influences Influences Protected by Geography Economics (food, water, shelter) Culture (languages, beliefs, relationships) Politics Examples Sioux Indians New England WAR is the final stage of political negotiation… Justified by cultural differences (dehumanization)… With the goal of protecting economic interest.

4 Farming Analogy Mesquite Trees
Learning Target I can develop my understanding of learning by analogizing learning. Take out weeds and insects Clear field & plow Fertilize and Irrigate Fertilize Irrigate Patience Mesquite Trees Corn Corn Seed Mesquite Trees = past beliefs/experiences; the way we think about: teachers, school, education. They represent barriers in our way of thinking about ourselves as learners the role of teachers, and the purpose of school Corn Seed = Content/Curriculum Corn = Goals/Outcomes Take Aways: Time + Energy = Results You have to plant what you want to grow If we don’t deal with mesquite trees, learning won’t take place Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

5 Computer Analogy Learning Target
I can develop my understanding of learning by analogizing learning. Humans are like the basic computer Body (Hardware) + Brains (Operating System) Everything else is installed programs For example, parents put in English language (create keyboard) Who are the inputters? Yourself, parents, friends, teachers Take Aways: This analogy shows the importance of influence. What we allow n our keyboard is the only thing that will come out. What you put in (or allow in) is what comes out Time + Energy = Results
