Presentation on theme: "Jesus Shall Come In The Glory of His Father"— Presentation transcript:

1 Jesus Shall Come In The Glory of His Father
“27: For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works” (Matt. 16). Comment: This is a simple presentation that emphasizes Jesus’ coming and the rewarding attendant his coming and judgment. It is essentially an exposition of Matthew 16: 27. Matthew 16: 27 obviously refers to Jesus’ final coming; while Matthew 16: 27 points to Jesus’ spiritual coming when he a few days subsequent to our study verse set up his Kingdom (cp. Mark 9: 1, cp. Luke 22: 15-18, Acts 20: 7, I Cor. 11: 23f.).

2 Jesus Shall Come In The Glory of His Father
“27: For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works” (Matt. 16). Note the apparent contradiction: verse 21 (“be killed”). The verse also contains: “raised again.” Jesus himself is coming again: Acts 1: 11; I John 3: 2, Jesus was raised, not a phantom (I Cor. 15).

3 Jesus Shall Come In The Glory of His Father
“27: For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works” (Matt. 16). Glory denotes the splendor (cp. John 1: 14, Matt. 25: 31, Heb. 2: 9, cp. 1: 3). Angels are ministering spirits (Heb. 1: 14, Matt. 13: 24-30, 36-43, 25: 31-33).

4 Jesus Shall Come In The Glory of His Father
“27: For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works” (Matt. 16). Could Jesus be teaching the necessity of works unto salvation?

5 The Bible and Works “We believe that works of any kind are not at all even involved in man’s eternal security. Salvation is wholly of grace, resting only on Jesus’ death and his perfect works….Works are absent in the salvation of the individual….” Introduction: The quote on slide one is a composite from just about all denominationalists. This theology involves many serious problems. If the quote is correct, then why are all men unconditionally saved and how can God unconditionally save some while arbitrarily condemning others without being a respecter of persons? (Acts 10: 34, 35).

6 The Bible and Works Some scriptures to consider:
Romans. 4: James 2: 14-26 Romans 11: Romans 2: 6-9 Acts 10: Acts 2: 38 Titus 3: Titus 3: 5 Comments: The scriptures on the left are used in an effort to prove “works” are excluded; while the scriptures on the right are introduced to prove “works” are included. Explain and harmonize these two classes.

1. God determines good work. 2. Works identify. 3. Christians created for the purpose of works. 4. God demands good works. 5. To be prepared to every good work. 6. Others see our good works. 7. Works determine our eternal destiny. Comments: Stress than man cannot merit or work for his salvation (payment system). However, works such as belief (I John 6: 29) are simply part of man accepting God’s saving grace.

15 Jesus Shall Come In The Glory of His Father
Conclusion: “27: And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28: Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29: And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation” (John 5; Rev. 22: 20, 21)).
