Math: This week second graders are learning to partition circles and rectangles into two, three or four equal shares. They will also learn to describe these shares using words such as halves, thirds, and fourths.
Reading: This week we will continue working on Informational Reading. Second graders will learn to determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text. They will discover that informational texts occur across disciplines (social studies, science, math, etc.) and therefore reading nonfiction books can assist with learning in other subject areas.
Writing & Science: This week we completing our class Science Fair project. Students are learning the Scientific Method, the steps necessary to complete a successful project. They are also learning how writers collaborate on shared research and projects to teach others.
Reminders:
Breakfast with Santa is this Saturday. Come and enjoy pancakes, sausage, fruit, OJ, and coffee. Santa will be making an appearance, and there will be crafts for the kids. There is no fee for admission with the donation of a new, unwrapped gift to be donated in the community.
The PTCO still needs volunteers to make Breakfast with Santa a success. If you are able to work for a 45 minute shift please send back the form that went home last week in student’s folders or visit:
Our class holiday party will be on December 19th from 11:30-12:30. If you are able to volunteer please let me know by sending an or jotting a note in your child’s agenda. The activities will be determined by the number of volunteers that can come. Thank you in advance for helping to make this a special day!
Please join us on December 7th for our annual Science Fair. The First Grade will be performing as well. I hope to see you there!
