1 UNIVERSAL UNITARIANISM:
What Happens When Good Churches Go Bad

2 ... Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:18

3 The Unitarian Universalist Pocket Guide
What Is It? “The meaning [of the name] has never stood still for long. It has been central to our tradition to understand truth as an evolving, growing reality.” The Unitarian Universalist Pocket Guide

4 What Is It? Unitarian Universalism affirms the unity of God (non-Trinity) and the embrace of all faiths and religious traditions, hence the name. Their core doctrine is “no doctrine.”

5 What Is It? In other words, “Do whatever you want and believe whatever you want” and don’t let anyone interfere with your pursuit of God on your terms, whoever He or She or It is.

6 What Is It? The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is made up of approximately 1,000 congregations. It grew out of the 1961 consolidation of the Universalists (1793) and the Unitarians (1825).

7 Check Us Out! “Come and return to your place in the pews and hear our heretical views: You were not born into sin, so lift up your chin. You have only your dogmas to lose.” Leonard Mason

8 Fundamental Teachings
1. Every individual should be encouraged to develop a personal philosophy of life.

9 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Philippians 2:5

10 Fundamental Teachings
2. We do not need any person, official or organization to tell us what to believe.

11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus …
II Timothy 2:1-2

12 Fundamental Teachings
3. All people should be tolerant of the religious ideas of others.

13 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine. I Timothy 1:3

14 Fundamental Teachings
4. Truth is not absolute. It changes over time.

15 For I am the Lord, I change not ...
Malachi 3:6

16 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth.
John 17:17

17 Fundamental Teachings
5. Each member is to develop a concept of God that is meaningful to him or her.

18 God is a Spirit, and they which worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
John 4:24

19 Fundamental Teachings
6. The Bible is just one of a myriad of important religious texts.

20 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
Matthew 24:35

21 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable ...
II Timothy 3:16

22 Fundamental Teachings
7. Very few Unitarian Universalists believe in a continuing, individual existence after death.

23 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Luke 16:22-23

24 Fundamental Teachings
8. They believe more complex forms of life have evolved from less complex.

25 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1

26 Fundamental Teachings
9. They do not believe in the doctrine of “original sin.” There is nothing from which to be saved.

27 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God
Romans 3:23

28 And in sin my mother conceived me.
Psalm 51:5

29 Fundamental Teachings
10. They do not believe in a literal interpretation of accepted Christian beliefs.

30 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. I John 2:21-22

31 The Bottom Line UU, with its roots in the Congregationalist Puritan churches that first populated New England, demonstrates how the abandonment of Scripture leads to utter heresy.
