1 Types of Noun Types of Noun
Is a grammatical term showing the overall kinds of nouns. In English grammar we have seven various types of noun. Types of Noun Proper Noun Common Noun Abstract Noun Material Noun Compound Noun Collective Noun Concrete Noun

2 Proper Noun Are those nouns which refer to proper/particular person, animal, thing or place. Note: The first letter of Proper Noun should always be capitalized. Ex: Asad Puppy Qur’an Kabul Asad has gone to Kabul many times.

3 Common Noun Common nouns are those which refer to common people, places and items. Ex: city, student, chair, boy, room etc. Ahmad told the students to be seated on their chairs.

4 Compound Noun A compound noun is a noun which is made of two nouns.
A compound noun is a noun which is made of two nouns. Examples: Classroom - College student- Bus driver etc Ali is a bus driver.

5 Types of compound noun Compound nouns are generally divided into two types: Simple compound Noun Hyphenated Compound Noun Simple Compound Noun: Simple compound nouns are those nouns which do not have hyphen (-). Exp: Bus driver – College student. Hyphenated Compound Nouns: Hyphenated compound nouns are those nouns which have hyphen. Brother – in- law, Mother – in law.

6 Collective Noun Are those nouns which look singular but have plural meanings. Ex: Family – Team – People – Group – Army etc. The team is practicing for the final match.

7 Abstract Noun Abstract Noun
Abstract nouns are those nouns which have no physical existence or shape Or abstract noun is a noun, which we can’t see and touch, but it makes a meaning. EX: Knowledge, honesty, experience, love, hate. etc

8 Concrete Noun Concrete nouns are those nouns which have physical existence or shape. . Exp: milk , car , Bag , tea , Meat etc.

9 Material Nouns Are those nouns which refer to substance from which other nouns are made. Exp: cotton – wood – mud – iron – plastic etc.

10 Gender of Noun Gender Masculine Feminine Common Neuter
The word gender is taken from the Arabic word (Genus) In English Grammar nouns generally have four genders. Gender Masculine Feminine Common Neuter

11 Masculine Gender Feminine Gender Common Gender Neuter Gender
Is a gender which refers to male living beings. Ex: father – brother – husband – uncle – son. Is a gender which refers to female living beings. mother – sister – wife – aunt – niece – daughter etc. Is a gender which refers to both male and female living beings. Friend – student – teacher – doctor – engineer. Is a gender which refers to neither male nor female living beings. Book – chair – notebook etc. Feminine Gender Common Gender Neuter Gender

It is a grammatical term used to show whether a noun is singular, plural, countable, non countable, regular or irregular. Ex: Book – Books – Car – milk – knife – child Are those Nouns which can be counted or count nouns are those which have physical individual shapes. book, car, pen, house, etc Are those nouns which cannot be counted or don’t have individual physical shapes. 14 Regular Nouns Are those nouns which have specific rules while changing them to plural. It means regular nouns have the suffixes (s, es , ies ,ves) in their plural forms. Ex: Root noun + suffixes Book – books Car – cars Watch – watches Dish – dishes Country – countries City – cities Wife – wives

15 Irregular Nouns Are those nouns which don’t have specific rules while changing them to plural forms. It means irregular nouns usually change their spelling while changing them to plural forms. Ex: Child Children Woman Women Man Men
