6 Editors face a number of challenges when dealing with plagiarism complaints. Reviewing documents and communicating with authors can be time consuming. Editors are often unfamiliar with IEEE policy related to author misconduct. Potential thorny legal issues often arise. Click to Continue

8 The IEEE IPR Office has always offered a number of core plagiarism resolution services, such as Maintaining a record of plagiarism complaints Offering expert advice in the areas of copyright infringement, plagiarism, and IEEE policies and procedures Providing letter templates for notifying and communicating with authors Providing useful documents, forms, and checklists to assist volunteers with adjudicating complaints Implementing corrective actions, such as posting Notices of Violation on offending papers in Xplore and adding author names to the Prohibited Authors List Click to Continue

10 The IEEE IPR Office offers an Enhanced Plagiarism Resolution Service (EnPReS) that substantially reduces the time and effort that editors need to resolve plagiarism cases. EnPReS can also relieve volunteers from concerns related to any potential legal ramifications. Click to Continue EnPReS

11 Comparing EnPReS and Core Services Using EnPReS IPR Office Staff drafts and sends any necessary correspondences with authors on behalf of the editor The Editor handles all correspondences directly IPR Office Staff provides the Editor with copies of all papers, highlighted to show overlapping portions. The Editor must review all papers to determine the merit of the complaint, and locate any portions of overlapping text. The Editor receives a completed Case Summary, which includes recommendations for the appropriate misconduct level and corrective actions, based on IEEE policy Editor must determine the appropriate misconduct level and corrective actions, and prepare a Case Summary for PSPB approval. All relevant document are posted on a secure wiki web page, which can be shared with ad hoc committee members Editor must circulate and keep track of all documents for ad hoc committee members.
