2 Tech Refresh 2017 Tech Refresh – Computers
Because Windows 7 will no longer be supported after January 14, 2020, we are accelerating the upgrade to Windows 10 on AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Computers this year. All AARP purchased computers for this season will have Windows 10. Tech Refresh computers will include both donated and locally purchased computers in the OIS, previously only AARP purchased computers were replaced. Additional funds are being used this year to substantially increase the quantity of Refresh computers available. 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

Minimum Readiness for installing Windows 10 on computers listed in OIS. 1.5 GHz processor 2 GB of Memory/RAM (1.7 GB as listed in OIS) 100 GB Hard Drive Microsoft’s “Windows 10 Update Advisor” can be run to determine readiness for Windows 10 upgrade, and also check manufacture's website for Windows 10 upgradeability recommendations. 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

4 Tech Refresh 2017 Computers Memory Upgrades
Some computers that meet Windows 10 Upgrade specifications except the memory requirement, may be considered and approved by your RC for memory upgrades, with reimbursement for the memory you purchase. You need to insure you have volunteers capable of installing additional memory in a laptop. 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

To be replaced computers must meet the following eligibility requirement: Must have (OIS) installed with the status as “OK” as of June 1st of each year. The Technology Inventory Agent (TIA) must be installed, with reports in the Online Inventory System (OIS) during the prior tax season by June 1st. Windows 10 can not be shown in OIS as already installed. Computer must not have been replaced in a previous Refresh program. (Requests for exceptions may be submitted to the National Technology Staff) 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

Some computers have been sending TIA reports, but are not listed in OIS. There are also computers listed in OIS that do not have any TIA reports or there is not any recent TIA reporting. Lists of computers in your State with these issues have been or will be Distributed by your RC These issues need to be resolved to allow the computers to be considered for Refresh next year. 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

7 Tech Refresh 2017 Allocation Decision Making
By October 13th, the National Technology Staff will distribute to Regional Coordinators a lists of Computers broken down by Split-State eligible for replacement, plus a projected number of computers allocated to each Region By or before November 3rd, Regional Coordinators will have worked with the appropriate volunteers in each of their Split- States to determine and prioritize regional/state/district/local needs, and will return their finalized list of replacement requests to the National Technology Staff 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

8 Tech Refresh New Computers for TY 2017
Tax-Aide Purchased, Locally Purchased and Donated computers must be ready for Windows 10 and meet these requirements: 2.0 GHz processor 2 GB of Memory/RAM (1.7 GB as listed in OIS) 100 GB Hard Drive Less than 5 years old (Donated Computers Only) Locally Purchased and Donated computers need to be added to OIS, but do not have to have Windows 10 Pro already installed because the NTC image with our Microsoft License can be installed. 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

No formal Printer Refresh is planned this year. Split-States need to review their available printers on a District and State-wide basis to best use their available printers. Priority should be… Insure sites have Windows 10 capable printers. Sites have network capable printers. Larger sites have higher volume printers. Identify excess printers that can be made available to other Districts or Split-States in your Region. Also consider using IRS network printer that seem to be readily available in some states 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28

The printer analysis on a national basis is very incomplete and requires more research. But initial findings show more of our printers are Windows 10 capable then was expected. 2017 September Webinar 9_27 & 28
