The effect of this regulation on the behavior of men and women Roadmap of the reform to achieve an equal, non-transferable and 100% paid leave  1) Brief description of the main features (characteristics) of the     parental leave regulation in your country which determine the     behaviour of mothers and fathers: period available for mothers and for     fathers, level of pay, transferability, flexibility (for instance, the     possibility of taking the leave along six, eight or even more years) ,     part time (or the possibility to extend the length by reducing     pay)....          2) The effect of this regulation on the behaviour of men and women     regarding take up of leave and other relevant issues.          3) What would be the reform that would drive your country to an     egalitarian parental leave system in terms of extending father’s     quota, non transferability (individualisation) of parts which are     right now transferable, increasing remuneration up to 100%, etc.?

MOTHERS Maternity leave: 52 weeks (Payment: 90% of salary for six weeks- NO CAP! - then £140 per week for 33 weeks, then unpaid) + holiday leave/pay accrued (paid) 2 weeks compulsory (so non-transferable); 50 weeks transferable 26% of working mothers not eligible ‘Maternity Allowance’ for some self-employed/ineligible mothers (£140 per week for 39 weeks) ? 12% ineligible for Maternity Leave AND Maternity Allowance Some employers (no good data) ‘topping up’ Statutory Maternity Pay for some weeks + Non paid parental (EU) leave: Individual right per parent max. one month per year

FIRST STEP! Introduce 3 x months (13 weeks) non-transferable ‘Daddy Months’ (father’s leave) to be taken in the FIRST YEAR Improve eligibility Pay existing 2 x weeks Paternity Leave and first 4 weeks of the ‘Daddy Months’ at 90% of salary with a ‘cap’ Pay remaining ’Daddy Months’ (9 weeks) at £140 per week (parity with Maternity Pay) Introduce ‘Paternity Allowance’ for self-employed and other ineligible fathers
