Gloves and gown must be worn to enter the room. A private room is required. If a private room is not available, page Infection Control 3. Special airflow rooms are not necessary. Door may remain open. 4. Gloves and gown are removed immediately after use. 5. Hands must be washed with soap and water upon leaving the room. 6. For patient transport outside room, wounds must be covered and body fluids contained. The patient should wear a clean outer cover gown and wash his/her hands. The receiving department should be notified by the nursing unit/pod that Contact Precautions Plus are required. 7. Visitors should wash their hands with soap and water when leaving the patient’s room. Visitors who will enter more than one patient’s room should use the precautions for healthcare workers outlined on the front of this card. Environmental Services will use a sporicidal disinfectant (ex. bleach) for cleaning of bathroom, commode, and all high-touch and horizontal surfaces of the inpatient room for terminal room cleaning.
