2 What is a recreation worker?
A person who leads and conducts recreational activities in public, private or volunteer facilities Organize, promote and manage daily activities such as arts, crafts, camping, music, sports, dramatics, etc.. Direct athletic group activities and leisure programs in workplaces Works with children, adults, seniors, special needs persons and youth at risk

3 Types of recreation workers
There can be many different types of recreation workers! These include: Recreation leaders, organize participants in daily recreation program Activity specialist, coach group activities in specific areas Recreation supervisors, oversee workers and plan activities Sports specialist, coach and teach team sports

4 Types of recreation workers cont.
Camp counsellors, lead and instruct campers in outdoor activities Directors of recreations and parks, develop and manage programs in parks, campgrounds, playgrounds, etc..

5 Salary and vacation days
An average recreation worker makes around 38,750$ per year They would make approx.19.87$ per hour About ¾ of recreation workers work full time, the other ¼ work irregular hours or part-time Recreation workers get normal paid vacation days so, after 12 months of work you are entitled to 2 weeks of paid vacation in the 2nd year

This job would appeal to people who enjoy working with others and have an outgoing and fun personality. You also need to be organized and be able to take charge and order people around. You should have good communication skills and Sensitivity when dealing with people If you are good at motivating others, providing encouragement and support for people this job is for you.

8 EDUCATION REQUIRED To be hired for this job you will need at least a bachelors degree at university. You can specialize in over 80 different things including park management, outdoor recreation, liberal arts, camp management, public administrations, etc.. Part time jobs in this field or volunteering doesn’t necessarily need post-secondary education

9 fun facts Because of the growing obesity problem in north America, the rate of recreation workers is estimated to increase by 14% by 2015 A recreation worker is a good starting job and can open up many opportunities for jobs such as social workers, psychologist, school counselor, etc.. Some recreation workers get the opportunity to work in cool places like cruise ships, country clubs and parks. You many not have to work 9am-5pm, as some activities may be done during the night. So you get to sleep in!
